That's why you have to have a backup vehicle! Even if it is a "Dodge" mine is reliable as hell.

I had to include the following as I saw it during a 2014 car show held at PIR in Oregon. I do remember it was a 1940 model - don't recall the make. Not a Crosley....

after speaking to a mechanic friend for advice, I gave the truck a once over yesterday and fired it up, no codes on dash - nothing.

drove it a couple of blocks and it seemed to be driving okay, the acceleration was there but I can't and don't want to try getting it to freeway speeds in my residential neighborhood....so I guess it'll be sitting for 2 weeks until my service appt

called my dealership for a service appointment this morning, earliest I can get in is August 30th

WTF...

I asked for a courtesy vehicle in the meantime and they said no..... then I got angry and repeated the the truck is brand new and unsafe to drive in this condition... they said they'd call back with an answer about a courtesy car and they never did ...

the pre-collision assist going off sounds interesting but the dash never lit up with the red warning plus it never gave me any codes or a check engine light....so its sitting in the driveway since this morning and I am not going to drive it until the dealer gets back to me which I know they won't I will have to call again
I can understand why you are upset, but it really isn't your dealerships fault. I can tell you dealerships are hurting right now. There is a glut of broken cars to be worked on. There is a lack of certified techs to do the work. And there are practically no loaner cars available.

The past decade has seen a lot of crap product being turned out by pretty much every car manufacturer out there. The dealership I left in may had probably a little over 250 cars on the lot and over 200 of them were customer cars in for repair. Mechanics seem to be in short supply right now. And transmission work is impossible to get done in south Florida - there is too much transmission work and not enough specialists at the dealerships. And at the dealership I was working at, ours broke his ankle after he was several cars deep! And think about the car market right now. Dealerships are killing just to get inventory to stay afloat - it's hard to get new cars for inventory. Loaner cars are new cars for inventory...

So I tell you this hoping to help you manage your expectations. When you drop your truck on on August 30th, they're probably going to have it for a long time before it's resolved. You'll be in line after many customers who's vehicles are waiting in front of yours. Those customers are also probably on a waiting list for a loaner car as well. Your Aug. 30th appointment is most likely an appointment to be seen by a service advisor, and not an actual appointment to get your truck seen by a mechanic. Keep calm and cool, and look at it as working with your service advisor. If it goes well enough and you can get a good rapport with them, they might be willing to go to bat with the service manager to get you in a loaner or help get the ball rolling on a reimbursed rental. Remember - it's not the dealership's responsibility to make sure you have reliable transportation. The best they can do is try to help you, if they are in the position to.

I hate that my reply to your issues with the truck sounds so negative, but the industry is in a state up upheaval right now, so it's not a positive situation. I'm sorry!

I have a 2021 FX4 with only 11,500 miles on it.

About 45 minutes ago I was doing my daily drive in to work and while accelerating to merge on the the highway my truck seemed to either throw a gear or completely fall out of gear. I lost all power in acceleration and got tossed forward in my seat as the truck locked up its tires for a brief moment and the RPM gauge went nuts.

The truck seemed to correct itself after that and found a gear to shift into but it was clearly in limp mode. I had no power in accelerating!
I pulled off the highway and gave it a once over and didn't find any leaks, I turned off the truck and waited for 30 seconds then drove it home on back roads.

Now I'm sitting here thinking the transmission is shot on a brand new truck and trying to schedule a service appointment at our local dealer as it under warranty.

I'm sure someone out there has experienced this before and can point me in the right direction, is the truck safe to drive on the highway?
Crap like this and the issue I had with the elec transfer case makes me want to go back to an older truck with manual everything and less nannies.

Sorry for your situation and I understand your frustration, but with due respect, your truck is not brand new as you’ve stated a couple of times. It’s at least a year old with 11,500 miles. Regardless, to my knowledge there is nothing in Fords warranty terms that agrees to provide a loaner for service. If a dealer provides one, it’s as a courtesy and subject to availability - and there is almost never availability.

I have rental coverage added to my auto insurance policy, so you may wish to check yours. Some credit cards may offer limited rental coverage, so it’s worth checking that as well. For future reference, you are still eligible to purchase an extended warranty from Ford that can include rental coverage.

@RescueMe1060 Did you ask from service if you can drive your truck until appointment?

I never asked the service representative if it was okay to drive. At the time I was more focused on just getting it in to see a mechanic. Also, even if they had said it was fine to drive just me being me, I'd like to have that in writing and on paper. Pretty sure my extended warranty says that if I knowingly drive the vehicle after finding a problem that it can be voided.

I've gotten through a week of no truck and Ive got at least another week to go before taking it for service. A lot of people I've talked to all say the same thing, the mechanics won't find anything wrong and they won't be able to replicate it.

I'm betting that it would be fine to drive and it was just a computer miscalculation or that pre-collision assist freaking out.

In the meantime I did take my 2002 MINI Cooper out of storage, fresh battery and oil change and got her back out on the road. I realized my initial phone call to the service tech made me sound like an entitled POS demanding a loaner truck. If they give me one next month, cool. If not, the MINI is truly like driving a street legal go-kart, the girlfriend hates sitting passenger LOL!!

Update: Dealer kept the truck about 2 days, found nothing wrong. They put about 25-30 mi on the odometer which tanked my MPG on the computer for some reason. Took it to them with an average of 21.8 got it back with an average of 21.1 oh well I guess.

Codes were checked - clear
Fluid levels - clear
checked DTCS & Oasis, not sure what this is but there was nothing to report
changed oil
rotated tires

I driving it on the highway and around town with no issues.

If it aint broke, then don't fix it. Want the best fuel mileage/performance from any Ecoboost motor? Use the highest octane available, and preferably non-ethanol (E0) blended gasoline if available.

When I see stuff like that, I always think of the international space station, sure hope they have that shielding stuff all worked out. ;)
They do not have it worked out. The shielding required for adequate protection is much too heavy. We simply do not have the tech to deliver any thing of that mass (think lead) into earth orbit yet. We can place smaller shielded satellites into orbit at the altitude of the Van Allen belts, and have to study them.

The space station flies in low earth orbit intentionally, well below the Van Allen Belts - which are highly radioactive and fatal to biologics (us).

This is one of the many reasons that skeptics think the US never went to the moon. There is no known nonlethal way to traverse the Van Allen Belts with our current technology.

.I read this thread and common to each with tranny woes is min cooper ownership, trig mentioned sunspots so I'll put the mini thing out there. Anyone else driving a mini and a Ford Ranger please be forewarned.

Also noticed posts from a banned member, shouldn't all the posts of those suffering bannishment be deleted so to remove all traces of their very existence ?

Some banned members had some good things to say when they were still contributing members.
Just their really bad posts that lead up to their banning get deleted.
