Sticking Tailgate

I've always had to sort of pop my tailgate handle for it to open. When I shut it it didn't always latch immediately without an extra push. I tried oiling everything I could see that had moving parts but nothing works.

After staring at it I see a metal stop and decided to bend it slightly, fixed... it now latches more easily and opens just as easily.
