So in addition to my fuel dilution journey I now have squeaky passenger side lower ball joint. 26K on it but just out of the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. I do have the 8/75 ESP premium extended warranty. I have an appointment next Wednesday to get it looked at. The technician doing the fuel dilution testing also noticed today when driving the truck into the service bay. Boot is tight , not leaking grease and not ripped. Only makes noise up and down but not when turning. Service writer also heard it and confirmed that the ESP should cover it. 🤞

I’m glad you have coverage for that. Mine are creaking a little bit when turning the wheel while stationary. Way out of factory warranty and also beyond my extended warranty.

I guess new LCAs are in my future. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

So, after an up close illuminated inspection with the wheel off I found a tiny hole in the boot. So much for ESP coverage. Trying to figure out plan B.

It sounds like it is not covered under warranty?

If the ball joint is not worn out, you could use a grease gun injector needle on a grease gun to grease the joint. Then clean the boot and seal the hole with silicone sealer.

So a visit to the dealer today revealed that they will get the ball joint covered. Even after I told them I squirted some grease into with a needle ( to no avail). Fortunately both the service advisor and the tech heard and noted it last week when I had it in for the HPFP fiasco. So it looks like I’ll be getting a new HPFP and a lower control arm this week.

Got my truck back today. Lower control arm replaced under ESP plan with $200 deductible. HPFP replaced under 5/60 powertrain. I’m really fortunate to have a good dealer that works with me.

Having a good dealer makes a lot of difference.
