I’ve had a full drop-in bedliner (bedsides, headboard, floor, tailgate) in three different Rangers and while I like the protection they offer, things slide around and the ridges are tough on the knees (maybe it’s age). Hanging around this forum has given me insight into other options - bed mats, sprayed-in liners, fitted bed mats, diy liners, etc.

When it comes to doubling up with a spray-in liner and a drop-in liner, There’s no need for a “full“ drop-in liner but a bed mat (fitted or otherwise) paired with a spray-in liner seems to give the best of both worlds and allows for other goodies to be installed (molle panels, swing cases, bed dividers, etc.) that you can’t with the tub-style drop-in liner. For this reason, I’ve considered removing my drop-in liner but my topper is making that a bigger job than I wanted.

I was a bit envious of @LaBalbe ’s bedside molle panels when we were installing his Elevate Rack. With all his camping gear, he could likely benefit from having a bed mat to go along with his spray-in liner.

No spray in liner here, just a simple drop in bed mat from Rough Country. But it works, money well spent. Just like the floor mats that I purchased from ya'll.

Simple, but effective.
I want two Rough Country stickers for my windows too
I have the Lift and RC Steps all I need now is the Mat :)

We’re seeing more builds running spray-in + drop-in together. And yeah, the first reaction is usually: “If I already paid for a spray-in, why add a drop-in—isn’t that wasting money?”

Short answer from a lot of real-world users: extra cushion, less rattle, better grip, and a sacrificial layer that keeps your spray-in from getting gouged when you chuck sharp or heavy stuff.

And we’ve been combing through pickup forums across models and the theme is consistent, check what they've said.

So here's the conclusion:
  1. Spray-ins are great and look clean, but they’re not perfect.
  2. Stacking a drop-in on top can solve specific pain points (noise, slide, impact).
Owners shared a ton of useful experiences—we figured it’s worth a proper poll here.
And...here comes our question:
If you already have a spray-in, would you add a drop-in on top?
• Yes — extra protection/grip is worth it
• Maybe — depends on price/fit/weight
• No — spray-in is enough
• Not sure — convince me in the comments

To make this useful and fun, we are hoping you can share your opinion down below this thread, and we are select one winner giving away 2 sets of bed mat to him/her or his/her friend from this forum

Here's the rule:
• Comment your take on spray-in + drop-in (real experience or what’s holding you back).
• @Tag one forum friend who’d have an opinion.
We’ll randomly pick one comment and send two bed mats — one to the commenter and one to the tagged friend.
• Multiple thoughtful comments = better odds, but one set max per person.

House rules

Keep it friendly, respect different setups, and skip the brand bashing. Real-world experience beats hot takes.

Dropping a few use-case screenshots below to spark ideas. Your pics welcome — especially that “one load that sold me” moment. Fire away 👇
I have been on the site and looked for a Mat, did a search and didnt see a Bed Mat for a Ranger?

I'm all for belts, suspenders and a girdle... I have Linex to protect the bed from water (which invariably gets in via the tonneau cover) and gets sort of held there vis the BedRug "dropin". On top of that is a rubber bed matt (for most things, sliding over the BedRug is not a problem but some heavier things with sharp edges, not so much)...

Thanks, @DukeCanBuildit, yeah those molle panels have been great for organizing stuff along the sides. I highly recommend them.

I got my Ranger CPO and it already had the Line-X spray-on liner in it, but if it hadn't that was one mod that I knew I wanted to do anyway. Some protection from the moisture and salt of our winters. I don't really see the benefit of adding a drop-in bed liner on top of that, and in order to do so, I'd have to remove the panels, tonneau cover, Elevate racks, not to mention all of the stuff that's strapped to those panels, so I don't see myself doing that.

That being said, you're not wrong about the bed mat. It's been creeping into my wish list more and more the longer I spend on this forum. Not only would it make moving around the bed on my knees and/or laying/sitting in the bed a little more comfortable, it would help to keep things from sliding around when I go up and down the mountain. Even though they still hand out plastic bags in NC (not so in ON), I have to bring tote bags, crates, or something when I go grocery shopping there, otherwise the plastic bags get completely shredded by the liner on the way up the mountain.

I ordered my 23 without a liner to have one sprayed in from Line-X soon after purchase in order to have a better warranty on the liner. The shop trucks at my work have drop in style which have held up well over the years, but I thought I’d give the spray in a try. (This is my first pickup)

My 1st Ranger ('85) didn't have a liner so my dad took me to Tractor Supply and bought me one. That was my very 1st truck mod. We were in his F-150. It flew out of the bed on the expressway on the way home. So, I got to ride in the bed of the truck the rest of the way home to hold it down. I'm surprised I survived the ride. I was flapping in the breeze like a rag the whole way. Lucky to have survived. My dad thought I was screaming for him to go faster. Then, my dad, who really should have worked at NASA, made me paint the entire bed of my truck with grease "to prevent rusting" 🤦‍♂️ Imagine the F'ing mess 2 years later when I removed it. A spray in liner has always been a dream of mine. This is my 1st truck with LineX and it's great. But it does hurt the knees. I'll eventually get a bed mat. But, I have forbidden myself from spending any more money just to add to my "Parts Pile" until the current pile is gone / installed.

I have a factory spray-in and then I added a bedrug mat, not the one that extends up the sides but just the floor and the tail gate. It helps some to prevent sliding and it easier on the knees when crawling around.

@Grandaccess you can still get the bedrug for the 2019-23 rangers.

@TDF017, I have a spray in, and it serves it's purpose. At least at first. As I age, and it seems to be happening quickly as of late, a spray in is hard on the knees. I would consider adding something to ease the pain.
Hey @mtsoxfan @TDF017 Big congrats—you two have snagged this giveaway!

No more pain killer or bionic kees, game changer's here LOL😂😂

Can’t wait for you to try the mats; they’ll keep the cab cleaner and the drives smoother. We’ll DM you shortly to sort delivery. Drop ins do tend to wear thin standard paint under them when they or the bed flexes. Water can get under them too. Sometimes I find spray ins a bit too grippy. Putting one over the other sounds like a good idea.

It was originally going to be a bed mat but they don't have any right now. Just floor liners. Since I already have floor liners thru Roush,,, @3Wliners - feel free to send mine to Duke (above)...

Yeah, that’s not a real address - likely some fast food joint or a cannabis store. 🤷‍♂️

Received my prize, set of 3W floor mats. @3Wliners, they produce a quality product. They look like they can hold a fair amount of liquid (melted snow around here) and they provide some traction as well. One thing I appreciate about the package is that the rear mat covers the hump, unlike individual mats. Thank you @3Wliners
