I took my truck in to the dealer about 6-8 wks ago for what turned out to be rodent damage to the passenger airbag wiring harness. Prior to that I had noticed a FoMoCo electronic doodad dangling loosley behind & above the OBD port. It was wired inline with the port. It was clearly an add on & I ziptied it up with a white ziptie because it was just dangling on some pretty thin wires. I had asked them to check it out while I had it there. Went today to remove the doodad & there is no trace of the doodad or my white ziptie. Instead I find a long, rolled up bunch of wires & this electronic doodad velcroed to the bottom edge of the dash. Apparently it is a Lojack/tracker based on a Google search. Is it safe to remove this & not mess up the Ford Pass app or location services or anything??

Nope, purchased CPO used from Sam Galloway Ford in Fort Myers, financed through AAA Banking car loan. Have since paid that off by balance transferring to 0% Bank of America credit card. It is odd the the FoMoCo thingie that was inline with the back of the OBD port & my white ziptie are gone ( everything else up there & other zipties are black). This may have been there before but I don't remember seeing it or it's long, bunched up pigtail. The little narrow rectangular connector was connected to matching connector coming off wiring harness near OBD big, fat wiring harness.

Did you lease your Ranger?

The LoJack device leads me to think that it was a lease return, possibly a fleet vehicle. Dealers sometimes install trackers but usually cheaper looking models. I can understand a fleet vehicle having it and why a leasing company would want to know where things are if they have to reposses.

That OBDII port dongle might have been for this device but it could have been for something else (tune, brake controller, gauges, etc.).

Anyway, truck seems to run & drive fine without it. Any ideas if it will screw up Ford Pass app or any other software/electronic stuff?

Any of third party trackers should not mess with the ford pass info. Depending on how they wired it some electrical stuff might be disconnected without it but I’m not sure. The modem built into the ranger under the center console handles the ford pass stuff.

This looks to be just a tracker, I bought my truck used and the previous owner installed one. There was an aftermarket kill switch under there too, it was sloppily t-tapped into a handful of the ignition wires. Was a pain to remove, took several hours.

looks like a tracker -- In my shopping I ran across several dealers that put them in every car on their lots and charge for them these dealers used one called "Kahu" I think but similar to that one, Idid not buy from those dealers they call it a mandatory add-on and promise it saves you on insurance (it doesn't at least at my company) if you do some googling it is basically an inventory control system for dealers that gets THEM a discount on THIER insurance. If you are shopping Id suggest not buying one OR making sure it is removed neatly because some of the the installations I saw are VERY sloppy like using splice connectors that might lead to issues down the road and since its not factory installed ford would likely use that to deny warranty on it. just my experience and suggestion. im not paying for their inventory control system.

Its not a Ford part so it should not mess with anything, unless its wired around something?
Spireon is a fleet management company

I Google searched the image and there are bunch of them for sale on eBay & Facebook for ~$5-$20. I just wish car dealers would remove crap like this when they sell the car. It's not factory, I didn't ask for it, I didn't consent to it, & it serves no useful purpose for me.

We special ordered our 2020 Ranger. First thing I told the salesman prior to ordering was "NO DEALER ADD-ONS". Their service dept still installed a security device, etched numbers into the windows, and filled the tires with nitrogen

When I complained, the sales dept blamed the service dept. Service dept said the sales dept never told them "not" to. It's part of their dealer prep on every vehicle.

They removed the security device and replaced the lower dash panel they screwed into to mount it. Also, told me I could keep the green nitrogen valve stem caps

Good you got to keep the green caps, regular air is already 78% Ni!

I am at a point in my life where I can factory order my new vehicles and pay cash for them. When I send out requests for bids for a new vehicle, I include the following:

I will only accept the vehicle as it was shipped by the manufacturer; I will not accept, nor pay for, any dealer add-ons such as vehicle identification number etching, window tinting, upholstery coating, wind deflector, car alarm, pin striping, security tracking device, wheel locks, nitrogen for tires, etc. I will not accept the vehicle if any wiring has been cut, tapped into, or modified in any manner.

So far, I haven't had any issues but if the above happened, I would walk from the sale.

I also told them I would refuse the truck. But I loved the truck when it finally came in after a 5 month wait around the covid shutdown. We both knew they would have no trouble finding another buyer. Water under the bridge now and we are still loving our Ranger.
