Just because Ford could does not mean that it should!

Think we'll ever see a self-driving Ranger? If Tesla can do it, Ford should be able to.

Wouldn't be much fun, would it:facepalm:?

Hey, I've got a 53 mile commute I do at 4:30 to 5 am every weekday....it would be nice to have the option to turn on the computer and have it wake me up when we get to work....lol

I see a new business opportunity here. Trigga’s burial service. We can transport and bury you with your smart car. Seeing how your all one now and twisted up makes it easy for everyone. For a little extra we can have the “why you do” singers serenade you off!

If they become safe driving im choosing the absolute cheapest vehicle possible. Because i wouldnt care and would just sleep. Basically it would be like public transportation, could care less about how it drives looks etc
which i think is exactly where we are headed. damn share.

i dont think i ever once, in my entire life - heard some smokin hot girl tell her friend, "damn, i wanna go for ride with him on public transportation" or "that electric charge touchscreen he has drives me wild". Pretty sure that no one has heard that with some self driving fruit wagon.
now on the opposite of that, I have gotten more than my fair share of "mileage" with the ladies that involved my cool old trucks, muscle cars.
when ev tofu soy shake sandal boxes approved by the handicapper general starting making single girls wanna date me i may change my mind. in the mean time im thinking on a new Mustang...:sunglasses::rockon:

Don’t care to see it but I’ll bet I’ll find a way to permanently disable it.

Anyone who has ever had a computer glitch (meaning, everybody) should know better than to trust self-driving passenger vehicles. On your home computer or smartphone, you can always turn it off and power it up again to resolve the issue, but if a glitch happens to a self-driving truck on the road at 65+ MPH, turning it off is not an option. Even with the present forms of cruise control, there is a tendency for drivers to trust it too much, not to mention people who will have that extra drink (or toke) because "the truck can drive me home..."

That new GMC Sierra commercial where they start clapping while driving really made me realize what a stupid and useless feature it is. I don't need to play Pat A Cake when I'm driving

i dont know, it could happen

Autonomous vehicles seem like they could solve a lot of problems. Really, what could go wrong?

Someone is in control. It could be you, or it could be whomever created the control software. I like to think I have some control over my own destiny. Some level of advanced "cruise control" seems useful, but humans can anticipate upcoming events better than any computer, so far. It would be easier to make wholesale changes to road-usage laws, regulations, customs, etc., than to create a computer to navigate a road network in which safe passage depends on distinctly human qualities. A logical first step is to strictly regulate vehicle speed, requiring every vehicle to travel at a specified speed, no higher or lower. I have three non-autonomous bicycles that get stupendously good gas mileage...

lots of accidents and deaths are caused by "distracted driving" aka doing everything but paying attention to driving including : updating social media, snap chat, selfies, ordering food and in general being an ass hat. so instead of designing cars that would address this problem the world has decided to make cars a rolling video game / theater with touch screens and wifi bluetooth and whatever "features" i do not need or use 98% of the time. We are dumb people with "smart devices". sad. makes me wanna have my own smart device, with a nice red button. when i push the button whoever is near me in traffic that is being an ass or playing with the phone etc. - would have the car they are in instantly blow every single fuse, relay, tire and engine. paper weight it. id love that so much. :) it would be like a public service. the satisfaction of sudden wake up to reality followed by bewilderment on the faces would be so priceless. if only...
couple years ago a state officer pulled up behind me on the grass next to I20. he wanted to know why i was in the grass and what the problem was. i told him everything was fine i had to check my email and send some messages for work so i pulled off the road. he looked shocked smiled and said you have a good day and he drove on.
I want a heads up target display on my windshield and machine guns to come up out of my fenders.

(Oops...did I say that out loud?)

Notice they only show it working on what looks like a long straight stretch of Sierra Nevada highway with well defined lines . Lets see that snit work on the winding pothole ridden highways most of us drive on everyday ,LOL .

If that were the case they would not have this fancy pre-collision assist technology.
The current pre-collision tech is a reactionary not predictive device . It can not look ahead and anticipate the upcoming event , only use it's sensors to react to what is already happening .

This. But to many people are distracted today with their darn phones. I can say mine has saved me a few times but not because I was distracted but because we have so many new people moving here and a lot of snowbirds who have no clue where they're going. So they'll just slam on their brakes or shoot over and cut in front of you so they don't miss their turn. Of course the smart move would've been to just proceed and turn around but I guess that's asking to much.
