I solve problems.
Installed the larger factory skid plate today and got to messing around when comparing the size to the original plate my XL came with.

Cut the flanges off the original skid plate and fit it over the larger plate. Sprayed with cold galv (matches really well if you ever need to touchup the factory silver plate) and sandwiched it on. If it's going to stay longer than a couple of days I'll probably carriage bolt the two plates together and take a die grinder to the slots on the front of the original so it will lay flatter.

Not a fan of the coke canning it has right now.

It's growing on me. I think I may rock both for a while.

Barely noticeable and I think it does afford me a little more protection the next time I smack a tree stump.

It's my understanding that the FX4 only has the big one. They don't come with both, that's just a parts diagram to show there is an A part (small), and B version (big)

Agreed. I tried the other way first actually. Larger skid plate will not fit over the small skid plate without modification or spacers. Not quite ready to start hacking on the FX4 skid plate since I just got it. By the way the larger plate was shown on backorder, but shipped 2 days after I ordered if anyone else is looking to swap theirs.

Plan to measure the thread pitch of the factory skid plate bolts tonight and order bhcs to hold the plates together better at the front. Will probably swap the factory bolts for bhcs while I'm at is so everything matches. Wish I could find zinc flake coated bolts stateside to match factory...

McMaster Carr for all your flange bolt needs in metric. Not that expensive ether. Grade 8, 10, stainless or chromate if I remember right

Dude I live 5 minutes from a main MMC distribution center. Pick up at 10AM tomorrow. About to move from here and it's going to suck. Bad.

Original bolts have a 24mm grip length and turned down on the ends. Overall length is ~ 30mm. Almost went with 25mm bolts, but I think the 30mm will be ok.

Guess I'm drilling holes in my new plate now. :headbang:

4x4 skid and 4x2 skid right?
It has to do with your trim level...not necessarily 4x4. My truck came with the smaller plate and no transfer case cover even though it's a 4x4.
