There are much better solenoids and parts out there for the 10R80 transmission. I had 18K miles on mine when I had major problems. I replaced the fluid 3x in 9K miles. It is now shifting perfectly... and 92% of the fluid is new (I pumped it out through the dipstick and could only pull about 50% of it at a time.). I also added LubeGard Platinum at each drain and fill. The last change I installed the PPE deep pan, and changed the filter as well. It is back to shifting normally.

It takes a couple hundred miles for the software to adjust to the speed of the new solenoids and change the shift patterns. Give it that much time to see if the shifts smooth out.

Sounds like you found a transmission mechanic who knows his stuff.

I was instructed to bring it back to him after 3k miles to have the oil changed and then again in another 3k miles. Sound about right?
In short - Yep sounds completely reasonable.

Almost like people are figuring out what one of the death knells of the valve bodies are.

Yep was watching a youtube video the other day, where a aftermarket trans guy was talking about the shortcomings of many modern transmissions and how to fix them. He said it basically came down to many of the materials and assemblies being built "just barely good enough" He said tear down a modern transmission and then what was considered a "good" one from the 80's or 90's and the differences were self evident. He said for example, that valve blocks from an 80's Aisin were made from alloy almost as hard as steel, whereas a modern valve block was made from alloy that was like butter by comparison. Cheaper stock, and quicker and easier to machine, but nowhere as long lasting in service.
He was also honest enough to say that yes I could be blowing smoke up your ar*se but remember I'm a private company which does one job, if I don't do it well, and live up to my word, then my company won't last very long. (and we've been in business for many years)

Started experiencing issues around 76,800. Hard shifting, skipping gears, flaring. I did a little research and seen where I can manually shift that might prolong any issues. It was then I found out that the 10R80 Transmissions were not what you might want in your truck. I was advised by some jagoff to have the trans oil changed as the filter may be clogged so I purchased over $200.00 in oil and a filter. Then I found out that my local Ford Dealer doesn't have a Trans Tech and that I would have to find another dealer. The dealer I purchased the truck from asked one question, "Does the trans have any issues"? Before I could finish the two words "A Couple", he told me they do not work on vehicles with prior trans issues. I thought, I bought the truck from here and you are actually denying me service to my truck? So now I am stuck with 13 Qts. of Trans Oil and a filter and no one to change the oil for me.

Then I got to around 77,300 miles and the truck became undrivable. I had to do something. I found a reputable trans mechanic through several people at work and decided to let him have it. It cost me 6k to have it rebuilt and he went back with heavy duty parts as opposed to standard parts. Is that even a thing or is he blowing smoke up my butt? New Solenoid Valve bank. New drum. New Clutches and everything that goes with them. He gave me an 18k mile - 18 month warranty. I was instructed to bring it back to him after 3k miles to have the oil changed and then again in another 3k miles. Sound about right?

At any rate, I have had it back and drove it the 45 minutes to work and back again. So far so good. It seemed a little tight the first day or so but I contribute that to the new clutches. I say all this to say that I am shocked that Ford let this go for as long as they have with no recall in sight yet. I met a guy during my dark days with it who had a 2022 Ranger with 96k miles on it and he told me he has went through 4 trans. already and was proud to tell me that Ford gave him a break on his first replacement. Instead of 6k for a trans., they knocked it back to 4k.

Thats my Fabulous Ford Story. Thoughts?
I paid little less than 6k for a new crate trans with 3 year unlimited miles warranty...almost used up my 3 years and so far so good...
