Driving home today engine started shuddering felt like engine misfiring and service engine light came on. 2019 X L T I've had it a little over a year but only has 6300 miles on it. Any Ideas of what's causing this?

Phil there's so many things that could cause the problem, i.e. loose coil pack, or plug wire, one of the many sensors. I suggest taking her to the dealer.

Don't have a code scanner? That's your best bet for getting a sense for what's happening, before you take it in that is.

Got my Ranger back from service dept today. Per service manger, cracked spark plug caused by water pooling around plug... Seems strange to me but hey service light is off and truck runs great so far..

My question would be why was water pooling around the plug. Doesn't the coil pack seal down around the plug well? Maybe need a new coil pack?

This should never happened!

Sucks!

Engine plant is to blame here! Sigh!

considering he has had it a little over a year, thats a harsh assessment.
Sure would hope the seals on the plugs would last longer than a year. Refresh my memory what is the recommended plug change interval? Must be at least 50K.

Man, better ease back on those river fording trips a little. Have you cleaned the engine by chance?

Plug interval is 100k, so no more than 80k in real world.

Since first plug change is at 100,000 miles....if this happened, more than likely it was the engine plant if OP is being straight up with us...

This exact thing happened to me back in October of this year. Truck had ~7,000 miles on it. Water pooling around plug boot. Had to replace the plug and coil. Never been through standing water. Never power washed the engine bay. No idea how it got in there. It's been fine since, but my butt still puckers when I give it some gas when going up a hill.

Here are my trials and tribulations with that: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/shudder-at-speed-infotainment-dead.9623/

Car wash much? Some of them when blowing off water can get it to come in from wiper gap
Sorry to jump on an old post but I recently had a similar issue with water and spark plugs. I went through a hard rain storm while on the interstate. The next day I could feel that the engine was “missing” under load, like accelerating fairly hard. Since I had seen other posts about water getting past the coil pack seals, I suspected this might be the issue. Since I was out of town, I had to wait for about a week to check it out. During this time the “miss” became barely noticeable, but was still there. Upon removing the plugs, #2 and #3 showed deposits and even some rust due to water. See picture.

The coil pack seals look fine. They were bolted down properly. I replaced the plugs and the engine is now running fine. I don’t wash the engine and I have had a Lariat engine cover since the first month of ownership. My ranger is a 2020 XLT with about 20,000 miles. I’ll probably replace the two coils and seals on the plugs that showed deposits. Not sure why this happened now, but I’ll definitely be watching for a reoccurrence.

You ever check back to see if the #2 and #3 were doing the same?
