Opinion on stock Dynapro 18” including snow use

Just curios what people’s opinions are on the stock Hankook 265/60-18 are? Not expecting snow grip and safety. But are they good or omg what did I do wrong moment ha.

don’t really want to replace them. But looking at Revo3 or Goodyear Duratrac in STOCK size

any insight would be great.

If you are after a good snow tire, the duratacs are not a good choice.

Much better tires for the snow are the Flaken wildpeak and cooper discoverer at3 4s.

The duratrac is hard to beat for an off road tire, but not the best for snow.

Wow, we've had totally different experiences in snow with Duratracs. I've run them on an F-150, F-250, and currently on an Explorer Sport Trac with a Supercharger . I feel they're too soft for the Super Duty, but love them on the other trucks. This pic is from last week after hunting in thigh deep snow in Idaho... and I barely needed 4wd and never turned on the rear locker. Also see my profile pic for another run in the snow with the Duratracs. Trying to decide between Duratracs and TA KO2 for the Ranger.

Obviously ones opinion of snowfall varies depending on where you live. For a short period of time I moved to central Ohio and was amazed how crazy people went when there was a light dusting snow, like in the picture above. They would cancel school as soon as the first snow flake hit the ground.
I'm originally from and currently live in northwestern PA, just on the edge of the snow belt where we get lake effect snow and it can be down right crazy. Last year the city north of me got over 200 inches in one season.




I currently have the dynapro stock tires and don't plan on changing them for this season. So I will be happy to report back at then end of the snowpocolypse.

Well, i live in NE ohio snow belt. We get hammered with snow. For reference. And i am in a rural area that will not see a state plow truck for days.....a foot of snow on the roads is common.

The Falkens are by far the best tire i have owned as far as snow performance is concerned. Its mot even close.

And i did royaly mess up my first post. It was a long day.....i confused duratracs with the TK02's.......i was reading duratracs and thinking TK02......

The duratracs are not bad in the snow. The TK is not a top choice for snow.

I have run both and neither match the Flaken in snow. The Cooper handles snow better than the GY as well in my experience.

Also.....not happy at all with the Bridgestone duellars that are currently on my ranger. About 2 inches of snow covering ice this morning. Was like i was on ice skates.

. Trying to decide between Duratracs and TA KO2 for the Ranger.

Those two were my top contenders as well but I really think I'm going to end up going with the General Grabber ATX in 265/70/17.

Also.....not happy at all with the Bridgestone duellars that are currently on my ranger. About 2 inches of snow covering ice this morning. Was like i was on ice skates.

I agree, they're definitely not rated well for the snow. I was in about 3-4" and they didn't instill much confidence in driving (or stopping).

Just to update this with my recent thoughts, after finally seeing some snow and ice the past couple weeks (very minor snow but slick roads, and freezing rain the past couple days as well). I'd have to say that the Hankook Dynapros are acceptable for basic everyday winter use. Acceptable... not good, not great, but not bad either. There's some minor slip when setting off from an icy stop, but nothing a feather foot and traction control can't mend. A bit of rear-end sliding when taking an off-angle intersection turn. But again, nothing a feather foot and stability control can't mend. I'm not too worried about deeper snow, since 4WD and snow mode will take care of that well enough I feel.

Again, that's all for basic everyday use. I wouldn't say I would feel comfortable taking them on a long trip in a winter storm in the middle of nowhere (like we do at least once every year for Christmas). They're fine for regular use, but the minute things get hairy, or unpredictable, or if you do end up in the ditch, they won't be able to get you out on your own. And that's when you're really screwed. Especially if there's no one around for miles and no passersby for hours, like some places we go. So I have some serious thinking to do over the next month to figure out what I want to do.

Agreed. I'll find out more as winter progresses, but they seem OK so far. Roads have been fairly decent so not much of a real test yet.

OP, this topic has been discussed a bunch in various threads. You'll find a wider variety of anecdotal experience with the search function.

That being said, if you're just using your truck as a daily, you'll be fine. The Dynapro's don't excel at anything besides getting good fuel economy and low noise, but you'll be just fine. I had the Dynapro's on Jan-March of Detroit winters and never had issues. Only reason why I switched was because I wanted a bigger tire, scared of punctures while off road, and they clog too easily in the mud.

came in today but haven’t picked them up yet. Most likely not until Saturday. But will try to sooner.

the local shop who I trust said they are amazing for my use - but will wear fast he said.

Why would you buy tires that you know are going to wear fast...? I'm sorry but I'm not sure if you did yourself any favors there with a budget tire like Kumho. I don't see why you would go from the stock Hankook's, that have been the OEM tire choice for many Ford trucks for years, to this.

Yeah except I’m okay if giving up tread wear nets me improved rain traction. Snow should be great with them.

hopefully won’t ride worse.

It's all a compromise. And in the end it depends what you want to focus on. Even though I hate the idea of buying new tires every 40-50k miles (especially with how fast that goes with the type of travel we do), I'd rather have a safe and grippy tire so I don't need to worry in those 50k miles.

Out in about a foot of snow yesterday. Awesome. In 4 wheel you could drift it and have fun. Once I turned TM to Snow it pretty much keeps it as straight as it can. Tires worked fine. Felt very good stopping which is the hard part. It had no problem accelerating.
