I have no answer for you. I don't work at MAP. I've never seen the external "sealer" until your picture. It's not on any vehicle I currently own. 2018 Escape, 2018 Focus, 2018 F150, 2011 Escape, 2010 Taurus or 2008 Focus.

If anybody can explain why it's there, I'd be interested. It is definitely not a common thing for Ford to apply.
My MKC also has the seam sealer.

I've worked in an assembly plant for the F-150 for over 10 years, and both the steel and aluminum doors have never had any "seam sealer" applied to the outside of the seam. There is, however, a sealer adhesive applied to the door outer skin before being mated to the inner and that "seals" the door.
Not sure why you haven't seen the seam sealer fords been putting on many doors since 2015. All F150's have it. Here's a 2019 F150 with it. As an auto body tech I'm always having to add it to new parts to match the OEM finish.

My STX has seam sealer... built in May
So does my 2016 TC.
None on my 1995 Mustang.
None on my 1980 Pinto.
I mention the last two because they are original and have no rust... so there's hope.

I have always been aggravated by that crimp design but the door drain design doesn't help.
On many older cars the seal at the glass fails and water gets inside and the crimp can actually swell that crimp from inside.
Silt can build up inside and the doors can hold moisture, this mud can prevent the drains from working.

Avoid pressure washing directly on the window seal, wipe down the crimp and wax it, and keep it in a dry garage when possible.
Of course the rear doors on the SuperCab will stay dry inside.

One solution could be to mask the area and spray the crimp with bedliner spray...

I can clearly see Seam sealer on the the F150 and escape. Notice how you didn't take a picture of the corners where the seam sealer ends.

Yeah not spraying rattle can on a $44,000 brand new truck.

I would think it would be easier to add a very small amount of clear silicone caulk on the seam.

The issue is the seam sealer is run around the perimeter of the door. And applying sealer over clear coat won't give you that strength and bond of oem

I took a picture of the same area you did.

Not the very edge. And seam sealer is still clear as day in that blurry picture. Here's a 2016 escape at my work. With seam sealer just like yours.

So don't. Its just one solution which works.
Do you take your $44,000 truck off road or out in the winter?
My whole box on my 2019 Ranger is sprayed inside with bedliner .

I did the crimp on my 2001 Ranger tailgate and it looked like it was factory,
No rust after 18 years and you could not see it without searching for it.
I did it because I saw so many other tailgates rusted out.
