what caused it to fail?
As a kid we has a 1980 thunderbird that was a great buy (my brother took it as his first vehicle as a hand me down when he turned 16 and rolled it not long after). It had a similar noise squeak/creak that took many many trips back to the dealer to fix. I think the noise stopped when they changed the last ball joint.
