I had a question about how you are going to mount it… will you be using the areas that roof racks would typically occupy?

I'm going to use 300 pound fishing magnets to hold it (initially). If I decide to commit and keep it,,, then I'll let my stereo/light installer do a more permanent attachment.

I want to make sure I love it before drilling into my roof.

Ohhh that’s a brilliant idea.. I assume you’re putting a thin felt liner between magnet and metal during the extended mockup period.. seriously though that’s a great idea.. I wonder what kinda knock the magnets could take… making it a quick disconnect solution.

The 150 pound magnets didn't feel strong enough. They came with rubber covers that killed their strength. I used a thin sheet of ClingWrap to cover the magnet and it was a lot stronger,,, until I added the weight of the light. Then it was a "no go". Not strong enough.

Now,,, I've got a better looking, curved bar coming that weights ½ as much... Paired with magnets that are twice as strong.

And,,, the new bar will sit @ 3" high when mounted on my roof. I plan on cutting up the mounting brackets a little. I'm going to make the mounting hole into a vertical slot so I can adjust the bar as low as possible.

The heavier bars that I'm returning would have sat 6" high.

No Bueno.

I prefer a stealthier look. If this new bar doesn't tickle my giggle trigger, I'm sending all this shit back and leaving my truck the way it is... until I upgrade the front bumper. And suspension. And tires & wheels. And speaker, amps, and subs...

...in that order.

I just noticed you don’t have your fog lights or headlights/high beams on in the pics… ??.. you will have no trouble seeing at night that’s for sure.

I never really answered your question so,,, I'm hoping get the leading edge of the bar about 1.0-1.5" back from the window/roof center line.... if that makes any sense. I'm 4 beers in. The only problem is,,, this is a temporary solution while I decide between love and hate. Therefore,,, it's going to be elevated by the magnets @ 0.5". So it's going to look like shit, no matter what, until I nut-up and make it permanent. Or peal it off and send it all back.

Also,,, the 300 pound magnets won't come off by trying to tilt them. I believe it requires plastic trim removal tools. And a 24/7 360⁰ security camera system doesn't hurt either.

I think your truck is at the perfect height now!
In my fantasy world,,, I would find a 4" long travel lift with drop down brackets to maintain factory driveline angles and stability controls,,, on Fox 2.5 Performance Elite shocks.

The closest I've seen to meet my needs is the BDS 6" lift. I'm already at 2½" and I like it a lot. However, I need to improve its off road compliance. A lot. I'm just afraid 6" is too much for the knees. There's ZERO tread left on those tires. But I'm also afraid the BDS 3½" lift won't give me enough travel to enjoy off roading any more than I currently do....

There's a huge section of real-estate at the off road park I go to that's all washed out sand swells (about 1 foot deep) that I carved out a wicked 0.75 mile course. You can lock the rear axel, turn off all traction and stability controls, dial the throttle signal controller to "race mode", keep it in 2wd and just shred these sandy bermed out corners at full throttle in 3rd gear and blast sand 100 feet. You damn near never have to lift, except in the straightaways. The suspension only allows me to go 35-40 mpg before the rear gets bouncy. That needs corrected. 300 pounds of tools pinned up against the tailgate did smooth thing out "a little". But I'm going all-in for the full overhaul (eventually). After I recover from my "Light Phase"...

Also,,, I'm gonna need these to complete the job

About $7600 in parts (with the 6" BDS)... Best guess on labor.

That's lottery ticket territory.

I'd guess 5-7 hours of labor

You want to go up, and I want to go down.

This dude in the pic I have attached has about exactly what I want, but I just can't figure out what wheels I want. I notice my truck in 4-high doesn't like to turn at sharp angles, and I wonder if it's due to the geometry being messed up?

Even stock trucks have that in 4H. Every lifted truck will do it too. A 2½" Leveling Kit won't affect handling performance or driveline function negatively. Going up from there requires drop-down brackets to maintain normal driveline geometry and factory stability controls. I'm sure common sense will kick in at some point and I'll keep things on the "lesser comcomplicated" side (and cheaper).

Mock up is super important so I can understand the extra lengths you’re going through and I’m all for it from the perspective of I’d do that myself if I was going that route.. holes in the roof is not something to be taken lightly. The magnet idea is something I might adopt for a quick fix occasionally mounted flood light.

Just would have to figure a quick disconnect solution for power to the flood lights power.. (run something from the tremor fuse box in the engine bay through the firewall and when not in use tuck it under the the trim below the dash with a Velcro loop or something.).

There are larger diameter magnetic mounts available that are thinner. But they aren't very powerful.

I may use 2 of my 150 pound magnets (or 4 if I make a bracket) to hold up a relatively lightweight cargo light bar / FU Light just below the rear window.
