I think the stock Hankook Dynapro ATMs on FX4 Rangers are P rated, 265/65 R17, right? All the hard cores will summarily dismiss anything P-rated, but hoping to gather some intel here.

Who's subjected these Hankooks to off road environments, specifically conditions more hazardous to sidewalls - irregular stones, tree roots, etc?

Only after I ordered did I find there's an option to upgrade to the LT -rated from the standard P-rated Hankooks. I'm used to P rated 'softroading' tires for my Subura, like Falken Wildpeak AT Trails. Weight of vehicle and camping gear does not necessitate any heavier a tire, for the Subaru. I've been playing with fire where I take my Subaru, hence my Ranger order.

Has anyone here gotten a puncture off road on their P rated Hankooks? I'm going to assume that occurence is very few and far between, but maybe not? I think only a small portion here regularly off road, but any data is better than none! Last thing I want to do is buy new tires for a brand new truck, if the Hankooks are as fragile as a helium ballon. I'd probably roll the dice, rely on the spare if need be and upgrade when I actually have to.
I have an FX4 package and came with the Hankook, the side wall was puncture the second time I took it off roading on a fire road. I had the truck less than 2 months when it happen. I had since lifted the truck and updated the tires to 33s. The Hankook had a soft side wall, if it sees a sharp rocks it will get punctured or just even a shadow of a sharp rock.

Funny, the Firestone Destination XT'S didnt cost that much nor did they weigh that much and had no problem handling the trails that tear up tires.
It's hyperbole, my friend. Just emphasizing the cost of performance. Anyone shopping tires would obviously find plenty that don't cost or weigh that much.

I can't comment on the stock Hankook tires because I replaced mine shortly after I purchased my truck, but my P rated Wildpeaks have been bulletproof and I have done some pretty crazy off-roading.

I'm on P-rated Toyo AT3's - ran them on my last truck too (Tundra, much heavier) and never had any issues off road here in Colorado, or in California. If you're doing SERIOUS off roading (rock crawling, lots of 4-low crawling) it might be worth it to you, but the weight wasnt worth the loss in MPG to me, so I choose to (try to) pick the best line through the rocks.

How much more durable are the Factory LT hankook offroad tires. I sprang for the upgrade figuring they be a bit more durable :)

The Hankook Dynapro ATM is a bit squishy compared to otherbtires. Yes the LT may hold up for a bit longer compared to the non LT but expext to replace them with a different tire if you avidly go OffRoad.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Spent 2 weeks off roading in AZ, on rocks, washes, gullys, and hills the entire time on the upgraded LT tires without any issues @ 30psi. I was with other rigs and had my spare so wasn't worried at all, but the truck surprised me with the ease it took to the terrain.
