The first cars I bought (used) had radios (AM only) that had tubes. After starting the car and turning on the radio, you had to wait a short time before the radio made noise.
When I was a volunteer firefighter, in Texas, we had an old deuce-and-a-half with an ancient Motorola radio that you had to rev the engine to use, it drew so much amperage and could kill the battery in seconds!

Remember the little green turtles from the pet shop. Mine was fun for about a week then wouldn't come out of it's shell. My mom told me it was hibernating but I knew it had died and flushed it ?.
Yes I do! I tried feeding mine tadpoles from a nearby park. Poor thing, we'd feed it lettuce and, from what I understand, there's zero nutrition for them with it.

At least they had a dial to work with.

That;s a hell of a dial tone! Something no longer around ...

When I lived in Canada, on a farm, in the middle of nowhere, we were the second party on a three-party line. You had to listen for your ring pattern to see if the call was for you.

For some school project I helped my son catch a bunch of crawdads from a nearby stream, put em in 5 gal bucket , kid takes them to school the next day opens the lid and they are all dead, he was in tears and it freaked the class out, what kind of a parent would let that happen ?

I brought home some crayfish from the stream we swam in and put them In a small fish bowl. About a week later there were thousands of them that were about the size of the Sea Monkeys I used to grow. Those crayfish really produce a lot of offspring. Took them back and dumped the whole bowl of them in the stream. Boy the sunfish went wild over them?.

I just did a search and they still sell Sea Monkeys. Time to relive my childhood again.

Yeah but that was a real thing to do, not some bogus poster. Or worse, I hear that kids now do PowerPoint presentations.

And thus your nickname of "Toeless Doug"!

I bet that hurt like a mofo! =(

Most of the damage was fairly superficial and to the achilles area.

I limped around on it for a bit. Can't recall any stitches, but all those blend together in the memories now.

It happened on a Saturday and I remember being elated that my church shoes didn't fit over the bandaging. Didn't get too many opportunities to skip church.

We bought a little shaker of turtle food for mine and it didn't eat it. I snuck in a rasinet and it loved it. I think that may have been what did it in ?.

I remember a lot of those like the Canadians winning the cup that year. Actually they won it almost every year back then. I also love the slang.

Far out man. lol ?
