I assume covered by warranty?
Nothing yet, on its way right now to a second dealer for work. First dealer stated they don't have a mechanic on hand that can do this job. I say thrown rod, but really all I have is the obvious engine knock and it could be a bent rod, spun bearing, etc..

Warranty discussion will occur at the new dealer once a mechanic is able to specifically diagnose the failure.

….. fingers crossed I didn't fuck this up, but acknowledge its a real possibility!
Don’t even think of giving a dealer the easy way out to charge you more.

“No, sir, I don’t know what happen. I was driving and it just went kaput. Please explain what went wrong.” Let them research and investigate what happen and to provide the data. I’m not saying to lie.

True, but if you say “I shifted” then they might just consider it user error, warranty not covered because the owner admitted it.

Of course, the discussion goes largely as you said. I'm a pretty rational person, so I guess I was just saying here that I'm aware of the possibilities but I'm not going to offer speculation on the failure mode.

I've only got 30k on my '19 Ranger. Warranty swapped the battery around 10k and they also did the greasing of the driveline spline for a clunking transmission. https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/how-to-lubricate-your-driveshaft-slip-joint.16648/
4 warranty visits to get the sync to stop locking up. Everything seems to be working now.
Daughter's mustang has the same engine, and I think the same transmission. She's gone over 100k. She's never had a mechanical issue. Just the front sensors for the adaptive cruise have stopped working. Doesn't use any oil.

What is the correct tie down bolt size?
Sorry - don't remember exactly, and I don't want to mis-quote.

I found the correct bolt sizes here on this website. Just do a search and you will find it. You will probably have to comb through a few threads.

There are two different sizes of threaded holes in the bed.

I’m looking at buying a 22 ranger Xlt fx4 next week but can’t find many high milage examples and I put on a lot of miles as a electrician for work and want to make sure this will be reliable. Along side if it is reliable what are some helpful hints or suggestions for a new owner u wish u knew? Thank you.
Ford ranger was most reliable midsize truck per consumer reports. They don't take money from anyone but consumers, so pretty sure bet. That is why I got my ranger.

There's two different "areas" of select shift mode. One where you first drop it into S mode and it shift automatically. If at any time you press the side + button it puts it into manual mode and it doesn't shift at red line. I hit the button once by accident and it shot up to redline quickly in first gear and I was like wtf but then realized it was my mistake. :headbang:
I can only speak from my experience but even in sport while in select shift I have had it upshift automatically, granted I was driving like a bat out of hell offroad but If you floor it it will upshift even if you dont want it to

You know, nothing was wrong with my ranger at 49k - I even chirped about how well my alternator was doing - and it's currently at the dealer with a thrown rod awaiting a new engine. Saturday night the truck died at a light, had to jump it to start it back up and it was knocking like crazy.

It's safe to say this doesn't happen to the majority of Rangers, but I'm bummed. I like the truck well enough otherwise that I'll keep driving it once the repairs are completed.

Dang, that ain't good. If possible keep us updated on the cause. Good luck.

I swear to god that bird noise isn't going to beat me. I WILL WIN... well... the dealership will because I am done trying to stop it - but I think I had two noises. They got the more annoying one (bed not torqued down and a bushing rattling) - one to go (I think it's the brake adjustment... ???) . Not stupid IMO. That noise is stupid.... stupid noise... (walks off grumbling about shooting birds with 22LR to make me less unhappy about the bird noises).
@Wytchdctr Patrick, if you've got the "bird chirp" IIRC that will probably be the waste gate on the turbo. When the little arm moves is when it chirps. I've seen that somewhere on the forum, but can't remember which thread it was in.

I have 70,000 miles on my 2020 XLT Ranger without one single issue with drivability or mechanical issues. I stack up a ton of miles. Even the dealer is like, wow, where they heck ya going all the time lol Truck drives better than when off the showroom floor....and that is seriously true and not overblown or exaggerated. Only thing I have replaced on my truck is tires, same tires that came with it. Other than that, it's a miles winner so far.
