The tiny four-banger performs OK for a tiny motor. The Ranger needs a V-6 option.
I'm really curious what you think a V-6 would give you over the 2.3? I'm consistently amazed at what this tiny little 4 banger will do - I've NEVER had a time when I was wanting for more power or torque - and I have used (and occasionally abused) my truck. See my story of pulling a 1 ton Dodge up a hill out of the snow.

Power, simply. I press the accelerator and it's 2..3...4....5..... then power. Even with the 10spd transmission. A manual would be a better option for that. I sit in too much traffic to make a manual practical.

Huh - sounds like you are describing turbo lag, which it does have, but it isn't that bad, IMO. A turbo V6 would have the same delay and a naturally aspirated V6 wouldn't give you as much power as the 2.3 does.

To each his own.

Aren't they putting a 6 in the Ranger Raptor? The 4's performance is fine now, but ask again in a few years. I don't think my truck has a turbo. I can't imagine a turbo performing that poorly. I did test drive a turbo 2.7 V6 F-150. "Underpowered" was understatement in that case. I'm no fan of electric cars, but if there ever was a case for an electric truck, the Ranger might be it.

Your truck has a turbo. That is the only option in North America

It does. Very convenient. I'd hate to see the performance without the turbo, or when it dies.
Recalling the 'good ole days' for Ranger. I speak of the original diesel option in North America from 1983-1987. 59bhp Toyo Kogo 4 banger available in 1983-1984. The Toyo Kogo motor was replaced by the 85bhp Mazda turbo diesel 4 banger from 1985-1987. Both manual and automatic transmissions were available. BUILT FORD TOUGH!!!

Ranger diesels have been a Ranger staple overseas from the beginning. Only a brief life here in North America. I'm thankful for the current 2.3 Ecoboost/10R80 combo.

The Ford Ranger EV from 1998-2002 will light anyone's fire for sure.

The underhood shot is from a 1984 Ranger with the Toyo Kogo motor.

The transmission lugs the engine in Drive. If you shift it to Sport it's like a whole different truck, keeps the rpms in the powerband. I never use Drive.

The most understressed version of the 2.3t (I think) bolted to what I think is the most understressed mating with the 10R80 transmission. I hope it's reliable or Ford is F'd.

Edit. Stress being HP and weight. I'm sure stupid could make up for a lack of either to tear each apart

I took you seriously before but starting to think troll. This thing 1/4s as quick as the semihot hatchbacks, in the upper 14s stock isn't bad at all. Not a muscle car by any means but unless your other car runs a 10 or your truck is broken you are full of it.

I might be a bit out of the drag racing game but I will be back soon. Retirement check + new career = I get to build another toy.... And oh look. A not slow truck to tow it with when I blow it up.

Do be careful out there. A neighbor builds drag cars and pro touring cars in his retirement. He stopped drag racing after putting his car into the wall and himself into the hospital.

I don't plan to go that fast. More like make a weird card turn a low 12 in the 1/4 and get... Wtf ... reactions on a test and tune night than anything serious.

That said, after losing an aqquantice in a Honda with a fake cage that rolled at 160mph.. I'll run fill safety gear for the given speed/et......
