I have a question regarding recovery points. Are the front factory tow points (black hoops) on my xl sufficient for recovery? Also is it ok to use a bow shackle on them or would i want to use a soft shackle or another rigging system? for the rear, I don't currently have a hitch or tow hooks in the rear, Im thinking a e-trailer hitch receiver and shackle hitch will be my best rear recovery option unless anyone has other ideas maybe bolt up the F150 tow hooks and use those?
Hoping to tap the collective knowledge here as I build and prep my truck recovery kit and ask all the dumb questions here so i can avoid the dumb decisions out there. Im not completely unexperienced in the matter, I took a Bill Burke recovery class where we went and buried a bunch of 4x4 ford vans to the axels in Anza Borrego in 2019 and then learned to recover. It was a lot of fun, but i haven't had to put any of it to use in my van.
My truck is a 4DR XL 4x4 w/added e locker no tow package. Let me know if you see anything crucial I'm missing from my recovery kit below
Current recovery/off-road kit includes:
589 Winch mount (not mounted yet)
Winch RC9.5k w/ synthetic (not mounted yet)
2 Traction boards
Onboard air w Tire kit (ARB repair, deflators, psi gauge) & 1 full size spare
Shovel, limb saw, axe
Gloves
oem jack
Planned gear
Hitch Receiver & Shackle hitch or other rear recovery points
Kinetic rope / snatch strap
Tow strap
Shackles x 4
Snatch block
Tree strap
pulpal land anchor
