I bought and installed the Ford Performance License Plate frame. I used $35 worth of Fordpass points. It’s definitely not something that really enhances the look of my truck, but it is much better than the one that the dealership provided.

Somebody mentioned it in another post, but there is not much clearance when the tailgate is open. Probably less than 1/8 inch. The pictures don’t do justice of how close the tailgate comes to the frame. I think I will drill some new holes and lower the plate mount a little.

The ones my dealership installed actually hit the tailgate edge on every truck. Apparently I was the first one to notice and let them know...

I have a flat chrome frame with not much clearance, either. I guess plates are different in Australia. :frown:

I never realized how close the tailgate is to the plate...fortunately I have a black silicone frame which is very thin/clean and adds nothing to the stack up...

Every vehicle I have ever bought the 1st thing I did was get rid of the dealer frames. No free advertising for the dealers.
Same. No need for them at all. As soon as my actual plates came and I could pull off the paper temps, they came off and went in the garbage. Shame too, because they were nice heavy metal chrome ones.

At the dealership where I worked at many years ago, service management instructed a lot attendant to replace ALL vehicles plate frames which came into the shop with the dealership ones.

This pissed off many customers, especially those who paid for those frames, on several occasions the poor attendant had to go dumpster diving to retrieve them.

The practice ended when a high ranking politician's wife got pulled over because the rear plate on her Lincoln was upside down, but, at least, the dealer's frame was positioned correctly.

What I did... FWIW:

Take a sanding disc on a 4" angle grinder and remove the majority of the upper lip and part of the upper sides of the license plate frame.

Then mount the frame backwards.

Link to the frame I used
