Anyone have issues with snow getting stuck in the rims and throwing them out of balance? This is the first truck I’ve ever had this problem with. After every snow it seems like my teeth want to rattle out.

ive had mud cake and stick to the rims and make it feel out of balance but it typically comes out in a few miles.

Yes, if it freezes into ice this will happen. If I drive in deep snow and will park it overnight I will scrape it out first. Happens in our Subaru too.

St Louis got 10" and the Ranger was flawless. There were people stuck all over and all I could do was help push. So I just got a recovery strap so I can be in a better position to help in the future. I have Googled and not sure best practices with this as many of the results were vague or assuming that your were pulling out off road vehicles with good places to hook into like on the front of my Ranger.

I also got a hitch with a tow hook and a d ring shackle but I'm not sure what I would do to drag out a little BMW. Anyone have any guidance? I'd like to be able to help, but I don't want to break stuff.

Last night we got some 20-30cm of additional snow. I went to the town in noonish and it was still raining and I didn't feel like going out for a photoshoot. So I took few snaps for you from the trip. Some parts of the road had been plowed, some were already claimed back by the snow and wind piling.

Please note the best ranger mod ever in the lower left part of the picture. Additionally if you look closely you can see the electric heating wires in the windshield.

Please look carefully, you might see the road in here.

Few kilometers later I saw an ATV in the ditch/slope. Stopped to investigate. It seems that the driver was using the ATV to plow the snow, got bit too far and could not get out. What ever he did just made the ATV move even more down the slope.

Backed up, attached the winch rope from ATV to recovery hook and pulled the poor sod out. Took like zero effort for the ranger. He was glad to get out from the ditch although visibly bit embarrassed.

So I spared him from the internet. Nah, not really, just forgot the picture as I was hurrying for lunch.

Edit: Just noticed something.. our rain gauge..

This one's difficult.

- If they have one of little screw in eyelets that goes in the bumper, use that. You'll need another 3/4-inch shackle to use there. Pull slow and gentle, these aren't as strong as recovery points on a truck.

- if they have a two inch receiver, that's better. Carry another receiver shackle mount (and shackle) and use that. If you can pull rearwards.

- most non offroad vehicles, even the new tundra, have no recovery points. So it's not safe to pull on them in any way. Maxtrax are your best solution. Buy the real thing, otherwise you'll destroy them within a few uses.

- carry a real shovel. No matter the method of recovery, removing as much of the obstacle as possible first will help reduce forces and make it safer.

- recovery can be dangerous and involves much nuance. Use the highest quality gear you can afford, and learn how to use it. Stick "Ronny Dahl" into YouTube, he has some of the best recovery education out there.

That is pretty cool Phil. I assume you could hook those up to most vehicles. Looks like fun.
