I was checking size comparisons between current Ranger va 2012 F150 it looks like the Ranger is close in size to the 2012 F 150 wondering if that is the reason they canceled the Ranger here when they introduced the T6 Ranger.

Something is off in the specs - the 2012 F-150 has a 6" wider track but is narrower in width? I'm guessing one is measuring without mirrors the other with mirrors?

But the wheelbase is almost identical - less than an inch different. And the total length is less than 3" different too.

I had never thought about that before, but you might be right - the sizes are VERY similar and maybe that is why they didn't introduce it here.

Ranger width is 77.8 without mirrors. The early materials from Ford listed the same (wider) width with and without mirrors and some sites have never corrected the error.

The simple answer is that Ford killed the Ranger because of sales, or lack there of. More complicated is that Ford did not support the Ranger If you look at the specs, except for one big upgrade in 1998, Ford only upgraded as needed to meet government standards. There are only so many ways you can change grill, head lights, and tail lights while keeping every thing else the same. The public eventually caught on and moved on to other trucks (there were choices at the time). Fleet sales became the bread and butter that kept the Ranger going - lots of XLs going to auto parts stores and delivery. But, they eventually gave up, also. So, no sales and no Ranger. When the mid-size truck made its comeback, Ford had no choice but to jump on the band wagon and grab for the cash with a brand new 8 year old imported domestic contender. Sure, it's a good truck. We'll just have to wait and see what Ford does or doesn't do this time around.

I believe I saw where sales where 100-200,000 per year and while they may have been declining. The fact was they created the 5th gen ranger in 2012 that was much bigger then the current Ranger. I think that because it was going to be close enough in size to the newly introduced F150. Once the compact truck turned into mid-size then they saw an opportunity $$$

In 2010 the Ranger sales were about 55,000. Not enough, apparently, to justify it's continuance. The F-150 might have been ccaused peripheral damage. I also recall Ford suggesting that buyers looking for a compact truck should look at the Transit Connect. All water under the bridge now.

I had a 2011 F150 supercab and a 2015 F150 supercab and they both were much bigger. I had a 2005 Ranger Edge supercab and it might be a little smaller than my 2020 Ranger supercab.

I thought I heard Ford was thinking of bringing back the F-100 badge on a new bigger ranger after the last one stopped. It was going to be a smaller truck an cheaper than the F-150. If Ford hadn't brought the ranger back I wouldn't have bought a truck. I probably would have bought a wrangler or explorer. I live in a condo an the parking is too tight for a full size truck an I just like being able to haul an move mid size items.

I think the last gen ranger was priced lower than where they wanted it to be so taking a 'break' for rebranding may have been one idea. Its hard to go from the base low-high msrp the last year it was made to the jump it is at now. I'm certain their are other reasons we are not privdleged to... Dodge also has not done a mid-size pick up for some years.
