This 1s/may seem a*al but I tend to keep autos a long time and factory grease does dry out over time, I have kept a grease gun from back in the day and will make a small puncture in boots for ball joints, sway bar links, etc and pump some grease into the crevice - gotta love that feeling and so do those joints.:blush:

Hi Charles,

I am not aware of any Zerk fitings on the 5G Ranger.

The joke around Ford was "lubed for life" (of the part, not the vehicle)

best,
Phil
Thanks Phil. That’s exactly what I needed clarification on. Much appreciated!

Mine seems to need some zerks at 2k miles. The chirping/squeaking is driving me nuts. Trip to the dealer coming up when I can get a day off work.

Well, quick search of owners manual shows grease fittings mentioned in 3 places, and on all 4wd vehicles?

I couldn’t find one, but it’s dark.

Dont waste your time, the OP only wanted Phil's opinion.
Wow. Get over it and move on. Gets annoying when you ask a simple question and the (same few) just can't resist making jokes on the first few postings. Time and place, that's not it. Maybe once a persons question has been answered. I see many times it gets so out of hand the op's question gets forgotten.

Thank you. So correct. Very annoying when a simple question gets lost in all the sarcastic BS responses.

I haven't looked on my XLT FX4 yet to see if there are any zerk fittings.

My 97 F150 didn't have any but everything that used a zerk fitting was drilled and tapped for one from the factory. I installed zerk fittings on that truck since it had high miles and saw a lot of dirt/gravel roads and water crossings.

Sadly zerk fittings are all dying out.

It's wild seeing 1950s trucks that have original suspension and driveline parts thanks to zerk fittings.

Not sure yet
I don't have my Ranger yet, but I expect it to NOT have any zerk/grease fittings. Most manufactures install sealed grease joints. That's for two reasons...1) so they can eventually charge you later down the line to replace the entire joint assembly because the "sealed" assembly will eventually dry out. and 2) people were mostly lazy at getting them filled when they had them, joints were wearing out, people complained, and manufactures changed them.

If you are a hands on type person, and like to tinker with the truck, you CAN install zerk fittings in those key points. You just have to monitor and give them a shot of fresh grease once in a while and it will last longer than a sealed one for sure. I own a 20 year old Harley that has a few zerk fittings that I squeeze fresh grease into once a year and have never had any issues at all....even after 20 years. Harley has since gone the same route in removing the zerk fittings as well to get you to have THEM install sealed bearings or joints after so many miles ;)
