Replacing my FX4 with with Bilstein 6112 on the front.
Looking through the install steps, looks like I need to take the jounce bumper from the current set up.

I was looking to assemble the strut separate and just replace it in (it would just make the whole process simpler for my situation). I got a new KYB top hat, but cannot find a jounce bumper for sale that "fits" the Ranger.
Does anyone here know if there is a universal one that would work? Does anyone know the dimensions of the stock ones?

Bilstein says to unscrew the boot cover and use the bumper, so I found the part from Ford called a suspension strut bearing. It Looks like a fancy dust boot to me. I can't imagine a universal jounce bumper of sorts not working. Looking to see if anyone has some knowledge on the subject.

I dont even see it pictured. It might be part of #5. But it is definitely a separate piece.

Thank you sir,

It is part of #5.

Wonder what the dimensions are, maybe there is one at 2 or 3 inches (doesnt look much bigger than that) tall that I can use on the new setup instead of having to get all of this and disassemble.

I am pretty sure this whole part is on my 5100s. So if you want to preassmble you would need this.

Yeah, I might just have to go that route.

It is my understanding that on the 5100 it tells you to use the whole thing (cut some off if it is to a certain lift).
On the 6112 the whole dust cover needs to go, likely because of the larger diameter, and that is what got me going down this rabbit hole, especially because not pre-assembling it will cause some logistical complications on my end.
Or I guess I can try using that tool that looks unsafe.

Thank you for your help!

Be careful with that tool. There's a lot of energy stored in those springs. For certain never lean over it.

It doesnt just look unsafe, it really is unsafe. Those threaded rods curve and look like they are going to explode. But I did HD springs on an f150 with it and didn’t die. Definitely did it outside the garage and kept it at arms reach.

A guy I used to work with lost an eye using one of those coil compressor tools. Not sure exactly how it happened, it was shortly after he retired from being an electrician. His eye was so damaged they had to remove it and do some reconstructive surgery on his face. He’s lucky that’s all he lost… Could've killed him.

That tool is totally sketchy looking. I have one from a time I replaced the top mount on my original suspension. I was slow and steady and nervous the whole time.

Then, I saw a YT video where some dude was sucking the nuts down with an impact wrench. 😮 😲

Definitely not doing that tool, one of my friends was telling me today how a guy got his finger crushed when the tool slipped.

Was looking through all data to see the replacement steps from Ford and what tool they showed. This is what they had.

Might be fun rot own a new tool if it is all that.

anyone played with one of these before?

That looks safer though. I've used the other tool in the past too, but carefully.
