I wish I could offer an opinion. I am just put off by trailers because the idea of being tethered to something just irks me.

Yea I could do some really really cool stuff with utility trailer, but I just can't bring myself to dig it.
You nailed it...camping for me right now with RTT is just that...once I set up camp I ain't going to be able to go anywhere lol...can't run to the store...with a trailer, I can park it and it's all set up...leave as I wish...either with the bike or go hit the water with the kayak or hit the trail with the Ranger...come back when I'm done and the camp's there waiting for me all set up...when I'm not camping, the trailer can stay at home and I don't have to lug around the RTT and all the camping gears inside my bed... ?

So what you are telling me is an RTT at very steep discount will be available in the future?

Well, I hate to report this but Msfitoy has found it's Achilles Heal. The 10R80 has failed. With less than 1,000 miles before reaching her 100K milestone, the conditions has deteriorated to a very unreliable state that forced her to be parked until her service appointment. Which, to add insult to injury, was placed over a month ago and it's still 10 days away!!! I'm hoping there's a reasonable solution to her repair(s) which doesn't involve thousand dollar bills! Shift solenoids? Shift valve body replacement? Rebuild transmission? New transmission? Who knows. I'm just hoping to have her back to normal so we can cross that 100K mile together. She still looks brand new ☹

Here's my write up to hand over to the service department so they don't have to hear the disappointment in my voice:

Transmission operation normal up till 95,000 miles, Spring 2022. Transmission currently miss-shifts in all modes, Drive, D+tow mode, S-mode auto, and S-mode manual.
  • 1st incident: 95,000 mile. Driving away from home one day, transmission shifted from 1st to 2nd with 2 second delay and concluding with violent engagement.
  • 2nd incident: This behavior was mitigated by lifting throttle in between 1-2nd. 7 quarts of old transmission fluid was extracted, new filter installed and 7 new quarts was added. Behavior did not immediately improve. After few thousand miles, the shifting improved and began operating mostly normal with slight miss shifts from 3rd -4th.
  • 3rd incident: While accelerating to highway speeds, the transmission attempted to shift from 9th to 10th but began hunting between 7th and 10th causing an error code P0766 (wrench icon on), “shift solenoid “D” performance or stuck off”. I pulled off the highway and the transmission was stuck in 5th and there was evidence of transmission fluid expelled from unknown point. The fluid sprayed back and covered the drive shaft, frame, rear diff and muffler assembly. After shutting off and waiting a few minutes to restart, the transmission was operating as before and was driven home slowly. Limp mode did not come on.
  • 4th incident: Fluid was checked and was still within specification. After cleaning the fluid from under body, the leak has not occurred since but the shifting behavior continued to worsen. Shifts from 1st to 2nd had changed from a jolt to a shudder.
  • 5th incident: Shifts from 3rd to 4th developed a long delay and drops to 2nd before either re-engaging 4th with either a complete miss, slip (rev goes up) or a violent jolt engagement. This causes the wrench icon to come on with instructions to “see manual”. The transmission began to stay in 4th and not shift up or down. After placing in park, noise can be heard from solenoids shifting into 1st. It also will become stuck in 7th even coming to a stop.
The transmission's current state has deteriorated to a point where it is not possible to drive the vehicle for more than a few miles before becoming stuck in high gear. Shutting off the vehicle can sometimes correct the gear position but not always.

I hope to follow this up with a happy ending in 2023...

Fingers crossed its nothing catastrophic...My sister's '10 escape with 88k on it just had its transmission rebuilt for 6k, and all it was doing was shifting funny (not as bad as yours from the sound of it). Hate to see what the bill is for rebuilding our 10 speed monstrosities.

6K like in $6,000?!?! Insane...my search shows at worst a brand new 10R80 would be around $3K...used/salvage much less...rebuild around 1.5-2K...how depressing...

My Ranger's been flawless in all other respects...so does that mean all of you are going to hit this wall around 100K miles? Hope not...

And that was my first thought too...I hope this is just a fluke, and am sorry it has happened to you.

Even 15 years ago I never heard of an actual transmission rebuild <$2k on older 4 and 5 speed transmissions, to say nothing of the newer 10speeds with significantly more electronics.

Hopefully it's not too bad, but it's probably wise to expect the worst.

@RangerPNW ...looks like you nailed on the head...as I've mentioned in my other transmission specific thread, I opted for a brand new replacement for $6K...I was half right...transmission is roughly $3K...the other amount is labor + misc...a rebuild would take much longer and was quoted a price close to a new replacement...that's water under the bridge and now we're looking forward moving forward...500 miles until we break the 100,000 miles mark...stand by...

This was one of those times I hoped to be wrong, but i suppose it could have been a lot worse. Here's hoping you have smoother sailing going forward.

Msfitoy has been crossed the 100K milestone and still looks like she just rolled off the line...albeit a 1,000 times improved...

Update on my 3 year Overland trailer plans...I've ruled out ground up trailer build and added toy hauling to include my CT125 and a Mokai jet kayak...here're my current options:

1-Intech Explore toy hauler/camper, turn key 2,000lbs GVW...20K - 30K new...15-20K used...
int-2.jpg

Not sure where I'll end up...option 1, like all finished campers, are pricy...although Intech probably has best bang for the buck...I need it to be some what off road capable but not extreme...it'll be used mostly as a base camp while my Ranger + Honda + Mokai are used as exploration tools...Options 2/3 is easier to start but would need time to complete...There're some great ideas out there on YT...I've been playing with my own ideas for an off grid toy hauler/camper/office...
They are dropping in price - I looked at a OVR and am getting hit w/ intech info. for MY22
