No telling how long the product will be in production and batteries made.
that is why I have now become a Ryobi convert. tools from the 90's work with modern lithium batteries

To stay on subject I also have the Viair 88 and it's been a great workhorse and yes it does get hot

I got an open box Viair 450p off amazon for $230 and I love it. The biggest thing to look at is duty cycle and your intended use, the 88p has a 40% duty cycle at 30psi meaning you can inflate for about 25 minutes then you need to let it cool for 35 minutes. Obviously, you can push it harder but if you want it to last a long time then you won't want to push past that, if you are going to be airing down to a low pressure you might want to look for something more powerful but if you just want something to top off from time to time the 88p is an excellent choice.

Not sure if you’re open to this option but I use a CO2 tank with a 150 PSI fixed regulator and can run air tools, inflate tires and do pretty much whatever you would want at that pressure. It’s a bit heavy and it’s a fairly large cylinder BUT it’s reliable and always works as long as it’s not empty. Another negative is filling it. You have to find a company willing to do that for you as it’s under high pressure. I use the local fire protection company and it’s about 12 bucks and it will last me a ton of wheeling trips airing up after as well as helping other folks with flats I encounter and using to blast crud off chainsaws or whatever I’m fooling with. Also, it inflates a tire pretty dang fast. Just another option. These two things then whatever air hose you choose and a chuck or nozzle and you’re ready to rip.

Viair makes high quality equipment. And you are correct, purchase the right product for the right need. I live in the eastern US and do not run through soft sand or go rock crawling, and the 88p is a perfect fit for my needs. I won't be filling all 4 33" tires at once. I run stock tires and check/top them off monthly. The 88p fits that need, and does so pretty quick too.

I think that's the move, look into replacing it when needed and step this down into another vehicle.

I have a lot of Milwaukee tools as I am an electrical contractor so I picked up the m18 inflator about a year ago. Might be the best purchase of my life 😂. Airs tires up quick. Battery life is great, I usually use a 5.0 or a HD 6.0. I drag it all over airing up farm equipment tires my ranger tires, my 5 year old can use it. Auto shutoff at whatever pressure you set. I’ve never had it shut off from temperature even when airing up 80 psi large implement tires. You can start it and do something else because it shuts off automatically at programmed pressure. It even has several programmable presets to save you time. I sound like a salesman 😂 but I really use the heck out of this thing and I love it. Also the pressure is quite accurate. Within 1 psi of my high end analog tire pressure gauge.

I had a ARB twin in my van and it was great for airing up 33's as well as my air locker. I now carry a SmittyBuilt 5.6 cfm compressor in the Ranger swing out case, it makes quick work of airing up tires. and i like that I can pass it off to friends on the trail and not have t make sure were all parked right next to each other to air them up.

I have this one (because I have other Craftsman V20 tools), and I love it. It works plugged in AC at the house, DC in the car and on battery anywhere you need. It can fill high pressure like tires and high volume like air mattresses and pool toys. It's very versatile, and I like that.

I like the looks of this...How long does it take to fill your tires on your Ranger? Just one battery is needed? Also, you can plug it in your cigarette lighter and save the battery on this unit?

I mostly use DeWalt power tools and I really liked the fact that this inflator has an aux power connector if I just happen to forget to bring a 20v battery with me. Mostly use it to fill the tires on my truck, bike and bicycles. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Milwaukee tools but I can't see purchasing the whole kit and kaboodle when I already have DeWalt batteries and tools on hand.
I was just watching a YT video for this Dewalt. Unit can't run longer than 10min before it has to rest for 20min. Hmmm. That may put it out of contention for me. I didn't realize this limitation. Perhaps it hasn't been an issue for you filling 4 Ranger tires?

i have been using the smittybilt 2780 for some years on my last truck and the ranger. works very well and fast enough. I usually only use it on 2 tires but often in temps well over 100F and it has no problems. around $150 shipped.
side note about rechargeable batteries for tools: you can convert any battery to run on any other brand with connectors from ebay. slightly higher voltage should be ok in most tools, like a 20v in a 18v tool, but i wouldn't put a 40V on a 12.
anyway the smittybilt 2780 is pretty heavy duty and relatively cheap. clamps to the battery only, no ac or power socket.
