After shutting off your Ranger, do you lock it twice? Maybe 3 times?

It depends on where I am.

If at home in the garage, I open the front door windows and just shut it down. I leave everything as is including the dash cam plugged into the USB port for power as it will power down in a minute or so.

If away from home I may crack the windows a tiny bit to relieve heat buildup if it is daytime. And also lock it.

I used to have a monitor left plugged into the ODB-II port but found it continued to pull power and actually had a few dead battery situations till pulled it off,

Lol, never. Just lock the doors the one time from either inside or out from the handles (like to change it up a little ?).

Forgot to mention earlier, it’s also not necessarily the drain, but actually more so on the startup. Doesn’t that, even today, still have a risk of causing a surge or equivalent in the electronics that were left on?

Again, it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things I’m sure now a days, but just another consideration.

It used to be (many years ago), and I don't know if it still is but it sure should be:
When you turned the key to START, the switch disconnected the accessories to alleviate the surge exposure.

Now I don't know how that would be handled with the 'Push to start' systems but there is no reason why it could not be incorporated.

Not 100% in this vehicle but in my GTI I always turn off ac because the dampers close and help seal off car interior. Intake to AC stays open so it dries reducing mold. I also close Ranger mirrors and after truck is off, push mirror button so the will flip out on restart. Takes longer to get out of the vehicle but I live 6 miles from work, so beat all my coworkers to work or home due to their long commutes.

That is a great idea to push the button to open the mirrors.

I have been driving down the road several times and they have been folded.

I always shut everything off. It’s just a habit from years of doing it in the winter to make sure I have as much juice in the battery to start on those extra cold mornings!
