Sort of a weird question. Tried searching but not even sure what the right search term would be.

I plan to remove the step boards that came on my Lariat Tremor. Will either store them or sell them. Haven’t decided yet.

My question is, does anyone know the Ford part number or similar generic part I can use to plug the bolt holes back up? (The ones where the step bar mounts to the body).

I don’t want water intruding and causing rust there for when I eventually get a different set of bars or if I ever have to reinstall the factory ones. I’ve seen a few step bar install videos that show non step equipped Rangers come with plugs in those holes from the factory.

I know the holes you are talking about, on my truck they are just open. truck didnt come with any thing to plug them. so i am assuming it would have to be an aftermarket part similar to the rubber plugs in the bed. i wish they were covered. tired of washing mud out of them after going of road. .

Guys I think you may be misunderstanding me?

I’m not talking about the row of holes in the rocker panel; I already plugged those with the plugs from Amazon.

I’m talking about the threaded holes where the bolts go into the body and hold the step bars in, once I remove the step bars.

I just put my bolts back in.
Yeah that’s my plan for today when I pull the step bars.

Was just hoping to find the factory plug or something like it so I can remove the bolts and include them with the bars if they sell.

My 19 had plastic plugs from the factory that I needed to pop out when I installed running boards. I’m not sure how to find a part number for those…

It sounds like the factory plugs were plastic based on Scooterdogs experience, not rubber. My guess is that will make replacement that much harder. ?

Could shoot some Fluid film up in there and just keep your eyes on it from time to time.

Otherwise, find some bolts that will thread in. Throw some anti-seize or blue locktite(Just don't torque down too much)

You should be able to buy an assorted box of plastic plugs off the old amzo
I have to be honest; I was a little nervous clicking on this thread after reading the title.
I wasn't sure either but came prepared to recommend Quik Clot

My mind just goes off in inappropriate directions. Could not imagine any way possible this would relate to a Ranger. That said, local auto stores have plastic push in panel plugs. You could possibly find the right size there. :lipssealed:

My 21 did not have any plugs in the threaded holes for the running boards.

Interesting... looks like another thing Ford deleted in the name of cost savings then...
