The Ranger is Sync 3 (at least the XLT and Lariat are).
Mine's an STX... thus Sync. At least that's what they tell me.
How should I know, I've never seen one!:p

Thanx...
Well maybe ... The Ranger is Sync and the TC is Sync3. They share common operating systems?
If it’s the 4” system you’re referring to, then yes. It’s based off SYNC 3. For example, the voice rec implementation is identical for all practical purposes. If you had two side by side the same commands would work in each, etc.

So it uses the same head unit just without a touch screen?
I don't know yet what features it doesn't do, except I understand that only the Lariat (B&O only)
has HD Radio like my TC. I can't confirm that but I guess the XLT doesn't do HD radio either?
Also I don't even know what apple play or that other thing like it really is? I thought Bluetooth could do about anything that is needed as far as interface is concerned.

Carplay and Android auto allow your phone to take over the interface on the screen for maps, media, and calls. Without those you can make calls and play media via Bluetooth, using Ford's on-screen interface.

That's cool, my wife would like that, does that feature work on the 4.2"?
Prolly not since that would effectively make it a touch screen!

Android auto/carplay is an option on the xlt and standard on the lariat. I think everything comes with Bluetooth.

Right, no touch. So, I don't think that one has HD Radio since it's a base unit, no CarPlay/AA of course, no Nav AppLink apps, like Waze though the media ones work. You have your AM/FM/SXM/BT/USB, etc. Use voice for any large media database as the non-touch interface can be bit of a bear for finding media, etc. Switch on Advanced Mode in settings to get rid of the prompts. Oh, and indexing doesn't work for Bluetooth (on SYNC or SYNC 3) as really no phone supports it. Stick to USB. Better audio quality anyway.

Music note button cycles Media sources (USB / Bluetooth Audio). That 4” should be the SYNC 3 Lite system so it operates the same with respect to indexing, browsing and voice recognition as SYNC 3 for USB.
Yep, that works. First press starts the music on my phone, the second pulls up a menu where I can choose the input similar to how the antenna button pulls up a choice of AM, FM1 and FM2. Thanks!

I believe that the basic Ranger has an "AUX" input jack but anything above that does not (SYNC). So, how (or what do I need) to play my CDs in the Ranger?
CDs are DEAD! Either rip to MP3 and play them off your phone or just get an app and play from one of the streaming services out there!

I have 2 flash/thumb drives plugged in the 2 USB slots on my ranger. On drive is called Albums and One is called Singles. I ripped my entire CD collection a few years back to a hard drive on the PC. So I transferred the album folders to my Album flash drive and just put a ton of singles on my Singles flash drive. Works great!
Do you leave your usb's plugged in and if so, do they drain the battery at all?

The USB goes dead a couple minutes after you shut off the truck and leave it.
