A few weeks back I posted about replacing my cracked tail light assembly and the wild cost from Ford because of the BLISS module. I changed over the model into a aftermarket assembly and it's virtually identical save for the Ranger script on the inside. This week because the paint was not damaged and there were no creases in the sheet metal I had the dent removed from the fender and the guys did a near perfect repair. At first blush it's not noticeable at all but if you really look and I mean really inspect you can barely see any distortion in the fender. I tried to take pictures to post but the Chili Pepper red paint is so shiny and just reflects light so much I couldn't. Suffice to say I probably saved myself about $2000,00 by going that route,

PDR is pretty awesome. Seen it done once, at someone’s place of work. Pulled up and talked to the guy for a few minutes. It was impressive, when I came out it was gone.

Living in Colorado is a just a matter of time before you learn the value of dentless hail repair. I had mine done after getting nailed less than a block from my house and garage with golf ball sized hail. It worked so well, my truck came out looking new and I have seen absolutely no issues since. The other thing is as long as no body work is necessary, it does not show up on carfax as an accident but will if they have to do any bodywork.

My PDR guy said if I paid in cash it wouldn't show on the car fax. $90.00 to have the dent removed sure I'll pay cash

Both the shop and the insurance said PDR doesn't show, now you got me wondering if it does?

My Ranger went through a hail storm. Roof, hood and folding alum tonneau cover took a beating. The body shop manager said PDR repair would be invisible, but the cover would be replaced. I protested the PDR on the roof. I was worried about R&R of the headliner in a two yr old vehicle.
The repair was perfect, inside and out. ....I pocketed the $600 for a new box cover. Good thing since a tree branch added another dent last fall.

I have a friend who owns a body shop and I talked to his PDR guy for a bit. He said it depends on the car and paint used. A Mazda 3 for example, because the paint they use and the metal involved, the paint will stretch and show stretch marks. Others bounce right back.

As for carfax, I'm not sure what triggers it. I got rear-ended in another car a while back, and it required bodywork, but it never appeared on carfax. We called the cops, he came, looked, and just said 'you guys exchange information and deal with it', then drove away. I verified when I sold it to Carvana and there was nothing on carfax.

I also had a DOH! in my Ranger that I submitted to insurance... not sure if that got on the carfax, I haven't checked yet.

It did for me in Ontario. $9500 for my truck and $7800 for my wife's car. I had to contact Carfax because they had included the cost of a rental in my claim.

Great feedback, thanks for sharing! It really makes you want to explore this option before going through insurance or a classic body shop. The Chili Pepper Red is beautiful, but I understand that it's a pain for the photos. Congratulations on the savings, it's inspiring!
