Question for guys ordering 2022 Rangers. Why not buy off the lot?
I did a search and there are over a 100 Rangers in various trim levels, 21 and 22 models within 200 miles of my location. Not bashing anyone, just curious?

Maybe tougher to find in other parts of the country?

Because I didn't want to pay $40,000 for an xl stx off a lot.

I did see commercials form Ford pushing ordering vehicles promising quicker deliveries and some savings, just didn’t think it was a big difference.

My dealer had/has none, and I also wanted a specific build. I sat in one they had back in December (only had 2 then and both 2WD) but I haven't even driven one yet. I'm also using X-Plan, and I'm fairly sure they're only honoring that on orders right now.

Makes sense….shame you couldn’t drive but you will be happy.

Dealerships are tacking on absurd "market adjustment" fee's on their inventory.

As sucky as ordering is, if you can keep your current vehicle like me during the wait, you'll save quite a bit.

When I ordered my 22 there was only 21's on the lots that dealers are marking up. In my eyes that 21 was a leftover and I wasn't paying a markup on that. So I ordered a 22 that's exactly what I wanted and worked out a good price with the dealer.

I ordered mine because there were no SuperCab models 2WD or 4WD within 100 miles (farthest that the Ford site would search). I need the 6' bed of the SuperCab, as my KTM will not fit otherwise. As is, the KTM's axle will be right at the edge of the bed so, I need to run the tailgate down and use the bed extender. Plus, it is way less expensive than a used Ranger in my area.

I searched Autotrader.
Big range of pricing on similar models.

Of all four "local" dealers I have, none of them had the specs I wanted, if they had any Rangers on the lot at all. And with the way things are going, I'd rather order to my specifications - and with the difference in the configurations I ran (STX vs XLT), the price difference was so minimal that after the fact, I liked the look of the XLT much more. So I went with that.

I got lucky. My dealership had a cool 2022 Ranger I liked on the lot, not marked up at all. They gave me a decent deal on my trade in, with a 1,200.00 rebate. When I approached my salesman he offered the option to order, but I was good :)

I looked all over the Dallas area. Most dealers were asking $5000 over MSRP but some more like $3500. I only found 1 dealer willing to accept an X-Plan but not on a Tremor. I also found two dealers willing to honor the X-Plan price on a custom order, but one of these 2 said that they would still have to add their $3500 extra. I even saw used Tremors selling for more than MSRP with 15K miles.

I think like I got lucky. I got my lightly used (4 months old, 3K miles) 2021 Tremor below MSRP but with the spray in bed liner and Ford hard tonneau cover. I figure this was about $4-5K below what I could get a new one off the lot while adding those options at my local dealers.

Best way to buy if you can. Someone else took the depreciation.
