Was driving home on the freeway cruising @ 70mpg coming form some wild west adventures with some light off-roading when suddenly I got the dreaded. Wrench Icon "See Manual" and it goes into Limp Mode.

So I pull over check everything I can, start it back up and it acts like everything is fine. No issues, no wrench, no CEL. Got it to the dealership and they pulled the codes and it says it was a Turbo Fault and a Timing Fault. Which the tech/tech advisor arnt sure where to start. Seems odd to have those too systems interactlike that.

Reading around seems like anyone someone gets a Power Train Fault it happens and goes away. Anyone else experience this?

I dont recall exactly, I was going to post...but after a couple days at the dealership they found a loose wire harness....codes cleared and it looks like everything is good to go.

So false alarm on that one...

Any chance of finding out which harness was the culprit?

Whatever one plugs into the timing sensor on top of the engine. I asked them to show me exactly which one. Looks based on the grime around it looks like it was out of line a little bit...

They said it cleared the trouble codes.

I'm still a little skeptical as it had a turbo fault code as well, perhaps they both share a common ground(I dont know)
It does feel like it has smoothed out a little. Im going to keep an eye on it.

I love my Ranger, but stuff like this keeps me a little hesitant.

Was still having the wrench icon come on with code P0299....

Found the real culprit .... The plug for the injection port located on the bottom side of the CVF cold pipe had fallen out at some point...found a replacement bolt and put some red loc-tite on that thing to make sure it never comes out again...Anyone from the future stumbles upon this and has a CVF setup...make sure you get loc-tite that bad boy in there good(if you are never going to use it that is).

Truck feels alive again! Dont know how I got so used to that sluggish behavior.

The last time I saw that wrench warning was when my tranny finally died...
Already got that one taken care of. I try to ignore the forums and just drive my Ranger but sometimes the forum induced paranoia gets to me.

Luckily this was a me induced problem and it didn't damage anything(that I know of)

So you had the same issue, missing or unsecured plug and issue now resolved?
