Hello, I have a problem I’m trying to diagnose.

I have a 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak 3.2L Automatic with 55,000 km

All regular maintenance has been kept up.

The other night while driving home on the highway, I encountered some odd shifting when accelerating, it felt like the shifting was just off or the timing just seemed off. (No engine light came on) After driving for about 5 minutes like this, I was no longer in drive gear. Car was turned on, but I could no longer accelerate (it was like being in neutral).

So, pulled over, checked to see underneath if anything was hanging down, looked fine. Got back and started the truck, no problem starting, put the car into drive, reverse, nothing, won’t go into gear. It will go into park.

Had it towed home, but the flatbed was to long to turn into our parking area, so we coasted in neutral down our street on a hill. At this time when we came down the hill, we heard a very loud clanking sound coming from the truck, but once on a flat surface the sound goes away. See video for the sound.

Next morning, I got underneath to see if I could find any cause of the sound. The only thing I did see what looked like to me a sliced wire from a connection near the transmission or transfer case. See photo attached.

I also plugged in my OBD2, which showed fault codes for the TCM, PCM, ACM, BCMii, plus Cylinder 2 & 5 glow plug circuit.

I’m hoping it has something with the just the sliced wire connection, but the sound it makes when started and, on an incline, worries me.

Any ideas?

Thanks

We is mostly Murica so not much help from us on this one.
Okay, even though I think the US didn't have the new Ranger in 2017, wouldn't you think the Rangers now have similar built components underneath and also being an automatic?

I'm guessing it has the 10R80 auto transmission?

this will seem like a silly question but is the driveshaft intact and meeting the differential as it should? the sound seems like its drive shaft or bearing sounds. the wire could be the transmission control or something. have you tried it after letting it sit?

Yes, everything underneath looks intact, the only thing out of the ordinary was that wire connection. Yesterday, I was able to get closer to that connection, and the 2 wires on this connection were still connected but stretched, but not cut or anything.
I have started the truck yesterday, no sound, but still will not go into gear.

i wonder if the transmission has a fuse some place?
seems like an electrical / computer issue but those noises were something moving in time with speed of the truck.
