Yep totaled. Was originally looking at a lincoln aviator to replace it. Wife drove one and even with adaptive suspension it felt really boat and old person-y. But I do think they look nice. Then we drove an explorer ST that still had the massage seats, and she was sold. Preferred the responsiveness. So with the last day of ford employee pricing, plus first responder discount, and some more negotiating I took this explorer home.

Still waiting on the insurance check but need wheels.

Here it is parked next to a cybertruck.

Yeah, the Explorer ST is really nice ride. If we ever go SUV it's near the top for the list and will get a test drive at a minimum.
While I get why it was total, I'm guessing it would not be too hard to fix it. I'm betting with the right fender off the right front door opens fine now. Was a small deer (at least by NC standards) so the damage look mostly outer skin and some parts right behind the grill. 25 year ago, damage like that would not have totaled it. Hood, fender, bumper, lights, grill, cooling / ac parts and related mounts and it'll likely be good to go again.

So, how do you like the replacement?
It's great! I'm REALLY impressed with the 3.0 V6. And I didn't think I would be since I'm a big 2.3L ecoboost fanboy. It really idles and acts like a big truck engine. It reminds me of the 5.4L triton in my old F150. It's neat.

I got all of the mods re-installed, oil catch can, hood struts, dash cam. I also got the first break-in oil change done at 500 miles.

I will say I went from the vehicle with the best oil change I've ever gone through, to probably one of the worst. The old explorer, everything was right there for you in a hole in the skid plate. No removal of anything. So easy and presentable.

But now with the 3.0 V6, there's a skirt for removal, EVERYTHING is plastic... everything. The oil filter is canister style on TOP of the engine??? The strut tower brace is DIRECTLY over the oil fill. So that sucks.

When I hit 2000 miles I'll do another oil change and change all of the gear oil since I had bad luck with the last Explorer's rear diff. In it for the long haul (hopefully)

Nice!. I had a couple F150's with the 5.4 Triton and really liked that power.

Amazing where they bury stuff in new vehicles.
