I am starting to look around for new tires for my 2019 XLT. I currently have the Michelin Defenders (which is the second set of tires). They have been great tires all around. Since I am going to keep my truck for the long haul, I am looking for something that is a bit more aggressive without sacrificing noise and fuel mileage.

I'm a big Michelin fan from another car. We went through two pairs, plus the original tires with 360,000+ miles in 10 years. On the next car, we tried Nokian and I loved them for wet and icy roads up here in New Hampshire.

I'm thinking Nokian Outpost nATs for Soupie when the time comes.

Before you buy any set of All-Terrain tires let's ask a few questions.

Do you have any plans for OffRoad? No a basic dirt road doesn't count. Also you can't use the term "Forest Roads" since they can vary from basic dirt road to crazy rock crawler country.

How often do you deal with snow in the winter? Is it a place where winter last 8 months of the year(like the Colorado Rockies) or a place you only have light dustings and the entire town shuts down?

If you do touch the dirt what percentage are you on the dirt on average?

If you go heavier than you current tire you’ll give up some mpg’s and most AT tires are heavier, so I would figure out the weight of your current tire and go from there. And, in most cases you’ll gain some noise too.

The Cooper Discoverer AT3 is a good all around tire that looks decent, quiet and wears well. I run the Cooper Rugged Treks due to dealing with mud a lot. I Had the Discoverers before and liked them. But considering you live in a region with lots of snow and I don’t I might not be giving the best advice lol.

Great tip!

I think the Nokian in stock Steelie size are 3 pounds heavier than my stock Bridgestone Duellers.

Your point about the weight changed my mind on going to an inch taller and half inch wider Nokian.

Doesn't seem like much but it is more rotational weight.

LOL, maybe I'll fill them with helium! =p

What do you like about them over say KO2s or Grabbers? Tread pattern appears the same.

My only experience of the Nokian were an all-season car tire on a Corolla. And it performed great on many cold, dark mornings of speeding on winter highways as we went to Kate's many chemo sessions (fast forward to full remission for a few years now).

Those were terrible drives, inevitably running late for a 7AM appointment an hour and a half away.

The Nokian just felt more planted than other tires I've had.

And they did great on a summer trip to Kansas City from Portsmouth.

My tire experience is limited. I loved the Goodyear Wranglers I had on the FJ. We've had three sets of Michelins on two Corollas and they wore incredibly well with good performance.

It's such a subjective thing and there's no one perfect tire. For me, the Nokian seem like high quality with good traction and fairly quiet.

Of course, I have no idea how the Outpost actually handle but I do like that they are made the US.

And at the rate I'm going it'll be a while before I put enough miles on he stock tires (3,300 miles in the first year!) to justify $1,000+ on tires.

And for a 2WD whose idea of off-roading is a dump run and a dirt road to a small state park boat ramp, I think most any tire would actually do okay. =)

What's your ideal tire SigOris?
