Welcome Chris. I see you have a '17 Tacoma,I trade in my '16 Tacoma for my Ranger and couldn't be happier! Have you had a chance to drive the Ranger yet? Not sure where you are in the valley but I bought mine from Peoria Ford on Bell Rd and they were very good to deal with.

The first thing you'll notice is how smooth the tranny is compared to that God awful 6 speed Taco! There's way more usable power in the Ranger where the Tacoma you had to be up around 5000 rpm's for it to get out of its own way. Don't let the 4cyl deter you as it has plenty of power and torque and if you want a little more just drop it in S mode and it's a rocket.

I have not yet driven one. When I purchased my Tacoma, I got the MT because I'd already heard how bad the auto was. Mostly I'm looking because my wife doesn't like driving the MT, and I figure if I'm going to get an auto it might be worth going back to the truck I've had most of my life.

It is good to hear that you are so happy with your purchase. I've been a little concerned more with the EcoBoost than with the 4 cylinder specifically.

I work down in the valley in Scottsdale, but I actually live up closer to Prescott. I have a long commute every day. Maybe I'll try and get a test drive in this weekend and see what I think.

We hope that Ford will deliver on your evaluation. Rest assured that the EcoBoost has been proven to be a very robust power plant. The 10 speed auto is a engineering marvel headed up my one of my off road support teams...Kevin N. A superb transmission...

These forums have a gloves off approach and I think you will find that your research will allow you to evaluate the Ford offering objectively and hopefully subjectively as well. I love the big thumb pressing on the seat back when I stomp on the gas pedal of this 4 banger....simply, I love it!

That's quite a commute! I was also reluctant to purchase one when I heard the Ranger only had a 4cyl but after 2 test drives I was sold. I've had many trucks over the years (9 + this one) and this is the smoothest powertrain of them all.

I'm in the west valley and we go up to Sedona a few times a year and going north on the 17 with all the inclines (1000'-5000') is a breeze with the Ranger. Rpm's are around 2200 at 75-80 mph and even the steepest part which is right around the Crown King exit it only jumps up a couple hundred more. Even coming back home when you're coming through the Verde Valley from Cottonwood you have that really steep incline I think I hot 3000 rpm there which is really impressive. My Tacoma would be in the 4500-500 rpm ranger and constantly shifting gears where the Ranger is nice and smooth. Hope the rest drive goes good and let us know what you think.

Well, I did my test drive this weekend, and I was quite impressed with the vehicle. Now the search is on for the one I want and the deal that fits my budget. Fortunately, I am not looking for a high end one (XL, 101A package, 4x4, tow package). That and I'm ok with a 2019, so I'm hoping someplace will really deal trying to get rid of the old stock they have.

I'll post again if I do end up getting one with what I got.

New guy from San Diego Ca here, purchased my new 2019 Ranger Lariat SuperCab Ingot Silver 2 weeks ago today. Now have 500 mi and love this little truck, its really the best vehicle for what my wife and I do.
I have a Leer 100R w/carpet, interior light & factory installed Thule roof rack with Aero bars and have installed a Rough Country rubber bed mat onto which I'm putting an old school carpet kit with double beer holders on each side. ??
Also have a Console Vault, Flowmaster Chrome 3.5" exhaust tip & DeeZee tailgate damper. Then I'm finishing my customization with black plastic Ranger inserts for the grill and tailgate.
I'll post completed photos here and Ingot Silver thread when I get it done.

Greetings from Hampton Roads, Virginia. Old guy here now the proud owner of a 2019 Magnetic Lariat FX4. I've been reading the site for a while now and finally pulled the trigger on a "leftover". Now it's trying to figure everything out. Already purchased a Gator EFX hard folding Tonneau cover, side window deflectors, floor mats and bed mat. Based on pics in this forum, I talked the dealer into throwing in the tailgate applique, Ford added a $1500 rebate in the last day or so on top of a $2k rebate I was already getting...that was a pleasant surprise this morning. Looking forward to learning about this awesome truck in the forums.

New purchase here in Connecticut, a 2019 XLT FX4. Coming off a Chevy Avalanche, it's like going from a Rolls Royce to a Ferrari, a very different ride but lots of fun and just as capable despite its small size. I use it to drag stuff around the property and for business.

This is a great site, and it helped me make an informed decision to buy a Ranger. Thanks Everyone!

good day all

just traded in my old faithful 2005 F150 XLT SCab. I bought that truck new and put near 212000 miles on her. Broke my heart to trade her but I think I found a winner.

2019 Ranger XLT Super crew and I have to say...that truck has only slightly less room than my F150 had and more toys and such than even I was expecting. The steering is just as tight and responsive as my wife's 2018 Civic. The ride IS a bit bouncy but I'm sure that is due to the new springs needing to break in.
