Ford Rangers are still few and far between here, but F150's are stacking up. In my area, there isn't a huge demand for $63k XLT F150's.
This is exactly why I didn't buy another F150. I think the features of the XLT are perfect, but at 45k or less. Maybe I'm just old, but pricing seems to be ridiculous. I shouldn't be able to get a 3/4 ton for the price of a 1/2 ton.

Reporting back. I went and test drove the Ranger and I really liked it. The MSRP is 39.5k and I got them down to 37.5k. I'm still really considering it.

Then I had the brilliant idea of going and test driving two Mavericks. A dealer nearby had two used ones. They had a '22 XLT EcoBoost AWD with 3k miles on it and an original MSRP of $29.4k listed for $37k. I really liked it and managed to talk them down to $32.9k; they showed me their invoice and they paid $32.3k for it to some flipper. So now I'm also seriously considering that, thought I hate the idea of paying markup. I also drove a Lariat Hybrid and wasn't as impressed with the hybrid drivetrain.

All in all I'd consider it a successful day. If only I had the cash for both...
The fact that he has 2 used ones, less than a year old throws up a red flag for me. I'd give 37 for the Ranger before 33 on the Maverick, although IMO that's still a bit too high on both.

Well I talked it through with my wife and I think we’re going to move forward with the Ranger. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for all the information.

I am biased as all get out and probably not a great place to seek confirmation but I think you made the best decision.

A Mav for $25k is a sweet deal but at $32.5k it's a still a "hype wagon" in my opinion and I agree with @Jason B the fact that you see 2 given back already is an indication of how satisfied the owners are.

You're getting a great deal @ $37.5k on a very capable truck - and you're joining a group of *generally* happy, satisfied owners on these boards. Honestly the number of people that come here to just to talk about how much they love their truck is a surprise and a joy. My famous line on "trouble forums" is "people come here with their problems not to report in how happy they are with their car." That is really not the case here on ranger5g.com

I think you'll be a very satisfied owner as well. Enjoy it in best of health and I hope the purchase process is as easy as talking them down lol.

That is another reason I've said if I needed more than the Ranger I would have been looking at the Super Duty trucks. Capabilities of the F150 not enough more than the Ranger and the price of the Super Duty not that much more than the F150.

Let us know when you're done with the purchase (or back out if the deal doesn't work out), another member wants to know the dealer, maybe for that Jungle Splash they have on order, but you didn't want to share the dealer up front so I'm not until you OK it.

Thanks, I will keep everybody posted. I did blank out the stuff in the first post because I have been sniped by forum members before and didn't want it to happen again. I know what I posted isn't foolproof but I figured it'd at least help my chances. I removed the window sticker from the first post for now just in case. I'm in final negotiations with the sales person now.

Pics please and a list of mods you plan to do- damper is not acceptable even though you had to ask the wife for permission so you probably carry her purse... ya you need the damper. :p

100% On that one. I came to the forum before buying the Ranger to see all the complaints and problems with it to help with making a decision. I found more encouraging information that led me to buying a Ranger.

Well I just told the Salesman that we've got a deal after getting them to take off $300 more. So the sale price of the vehicle is just about $37K flat from a $39.5K MSRP. Getting excited now! It feels like I'm stealing this thing given the environment and from what I'm hearing in here.

You're going to love it!

But fair warning, the $37k is just the beginning as you'll encounter all kinds of things here that you never knew you needed. Until you suddenly needed it.

As long as your happy with the price and you don't feel a large screw sticking out of your back when you walk out of the dealership...
And, that price is less than a local dealer has for a 2021 Ranger 4x4 XLT sitting on his lot.
Better new for less $$$ than used for more $$$ !!!

Congrats... I would say first thing to do honestly is suspension. FX4 is way under damped. Do rears first and see if it's all you need. They are cheap and can do in driveway with hand tools
Well, I didn't get an FX4, but I assume it still applies? XLT 301A. I probably won't do much to it until it's paid off.

Have an appointment at 9:30am on Friday to buy it.

Not sure about the non-FX4 rears, but the best $200 you can spend on an FX4 is to replace the rear shocks with Bilsteins or Eibachs.

I did the Bilsteins in the rear of mine first and was so impressed with the improvement that I now have them on front as well.

My truck rides and handles (IMO) great right now.
