My passenger door lock / unlock touch sensor quit working

I would scan for codes and try a BCM Reset with Forscan, it sounds like you have a bad handle (which is a antenna) for the passive entry (Lariat)

There are some wiring checks for Voltage & Ground that can be done, but I would try the code read and reset first.

There is not a separate fuse for this - this is VBAT power from the DC/DC Convertor and the fuse for that is (Fuse #3 - BJB) 50 Amp Fuse, so pulling this fuse will dump power for the Pass/Entry system and force a power cycle.

Many, including myself, have had the Ranger shut down the handle sensor operation (except the driver's handle) when the battery is low. This is not a malfunction of the handle sensors. It is part of the battery management to preserve the battery charge when it is low. Charging the battery will restore all door handle lock/unlock operation.

Edit: Perhaps he has a bad truck battery if charging it doesn't help.

Truck battery fully charged on float, new battery in remote. No change. Everything else works fine. Do I loose all the settings if I unhook the battery to try and reset it ?

If not, the battery management system will not know the correct state of charge of the battery and may still disable the door handle sensors. In that case, place the negative charger connection to a truck body bolt and charge again. If charging is this manner doesn't restore the door handle lock function, then your battery may be bad.

Yes I did hook the negative to the body bolt and not the battery as noted in other posts.

I do not have forscan or any way to read errors other then the scan gauge that doesn't show much. Guess it's time for a dealer visit because it's still under the bumper to bumper warranty.

Well it started working. Took it for a ride to the Amish store and when we got there it started working again.

I don't think so. The drivers side works and key pad works. I tried with my fob and my wife tried with her fob so doesn't sound like that either.

Still have original battery on my 2020 (hitting 4 year Rangerversary next week ).

Had same thing happen a couple times after the Ranger sat for about a week without driving it. Once I started driving it again and used Forscan to set charge level to 90 % it hasn't happened again .

I'm only 4 1/2 miles each way to and from work so I don't put a lot of miles on it most days. I keep tow-haul on most of the time so the ASS is disabled. Which may be helping to extend the life of the battery ??‍

Haven't used a charger/maintainer or de-sulfated the battery (YET). I've checked it with a tester and have gotten mixed results. One time it says it's good and check it again a few minutes later and it reads bad .

I keep a NOCO jump starter in the Ranger, just in case, as the battery may be on borrowed time .

The battery is newish (06/2023). Is it possible that cold weather is a factor? I should also note that it hasn't been driven much in the last several weeks.

My experience (yours could be different) with the battery is a charge does not last long when truck sits. The parasitic drain seems to drain my battery, even my new one in a couple days. CCA's are good but battery charge will show ZERO in just a few days.

Cold weather and not driving the truck are very likely to be the cause. Not driving the truck is allowing the battery charge to be low and causing the door handle sensors to shut off to preserve the battery charge.

Jim the weather (hot or cold) really isn't the main problem it's the lack of use. I don't drive much now and most of my trips are short ones so if it's going to sit any longer than 2 days I'll put the battery maintainer on it. Is there any way you can run an extension cord to the truck and add a maintainer to it? I've had this one for 5 years and it works great.

I also added the extended cord. This way you can permanently attach it and run the end either out your grille or down through the lower tow hook. It'll make it a lot easier once your new house is done.

I read through all the replies, and realized I'm just not using the Ranger enough. Since it's been colder (20's) for the past week, it's just been more comfortable to use my wife's car. We needed to take about a 2 hour trip this afternoon, so we took the Ranger. Glad to report that it's back to normal. PS: also realized that I left a NOCO jump starter plugged into the USB port in the back seat. That couldn't have helped the infrequent use scenario.
