I saw on a video from Morimoto they were showing lux values of their lights vs the OE lights. Having not found similar data on the lights I bought I decided to also by a Lux meter to do some unscientific testing of my own. I parked my truck at about 25 feet from the wall where the meter was held while getting the max value. I did the OE light and DD Elite test Saturday night after I got the meter, you'll notice I still had the temp sensor on it set to C. And last night I did the Anzo lights.

OE halogen low beam: 795

OE halogen high beam: 1600

Anzo LED low beam: 726

Anzo LED high beam: 1060

And for fun the Diode Dynamic Elite Fog lights in amber: 294

The OE halogen numbers are way higher than Morimoto's video show, I'm curious as that what voltage they ran the lights at as mine are OE bulbs from Oct of 21 when the truck was built in all test had the lights on for a while and the truck running. I'm not sure how they got such a low reading on theirs, I remember watching the video and thinking they looked really yellow to me, the lights on my truck have always looked really good for halogen, especially on high.

I still would prefer the Anzo though; I like the cut off, color of the light from them, and mostly the LED DRL. But, if I happen to get my hands on used Lariat lights they may still get put on to replace the Anzo.

Update: this is the meter I used: MT-912 Light Meter

Since I can't remember, are the ANZO Headlights still Halogen but with a Projector Beam? Or is it LED?

Now, I know the peak numbers are lower, but you have to remember the halogen have a narrower beam, so while the peak appear to be lower with the LED, I think there is more light, just over a larger area, so there may be more usable light, but to test that I would need to get a wall that is as wide as the truck and with a curved sides to maintain 25' from the corner of the truck closest to the wall, then I could out the truck there with the lights on and measure in a grid for each light, recording any with lux value over a giving base line, so the number of those volumes would give coverage area, then I could average them to get an estimated lux/area² to really compare their output, but I ain't got time for that.

That cutoff is really nice.

And the width is nice, I don't think the fog lights are as needed to see the sides now.

I'm curious to see how wide the beam is. Drive on an open road at night and find out. I know that was one of my complaints with the AlphaRex Headlights and why I went back to OEM.

Maybe a good test would be sort of a reflective test. I mean, instead of measuring in direct light path, put the meter in front of the truck, facing forward, and measure both bulb types as reflected off the same wall at the same distance.
This wouldn't provide directivity info, but overall light power.

Got to love that cutoff!

Driving with that sharp cutoff in town will take some getting use to after the OEM halogens poor cutoff. At first your going to see that line bouncing with every dip in the road or pothole. And you see it on the back of every car in front of you. That goes away and you just enjoy being able to see better.

Perception is reality...

The color might also assist with feeling like the led is better/brighter.

Which company does the 1 lux test ie they measure how far out the lights are when they measure 1 lux of output... I feel like it would be some good data if there were a way to say at 90*, 60*,45*,30*,15* and 0* this is the distance for 1 lux with each headlight. I am in no way suggesting you do that because crikey that sounds like a ton of work just typing it. ?

But that would provide a 2d representation of light patterns and distances...

And to add a layer of complication you could do the measurements at the cutoff level and 2 ft above and below at the same angles for a 3d representation... ? ? ?

See you in a week after you get done the new test plan ;)

I'm used to that, the HIDs on the Focus are a projector style with a nice cutoff and the shutter for high beam (similar to how the Lariat LEDs switch between low and high beam). But the Focus lights turn into the corner, great for mountain roads at night.
