This caught me off guard also. I checked all the others on the lot and they had only four hooks as well. Per the standard specs on Ford's website the 2019 comes with 6 hooks and the 2020 comes with 4 hooks. Seems like a stupid cost cutting measure. I plan to order 2 more.

I need some help here-

My dealer gave me two tied downs and bolts, apparently from another vehicle, but they don't fit.

The holes line up but the bolts go in halfway and stop even though there is no obstruction. All of them do this. The tie down is a lighter brownish/brassy color than the ones in the pic upthread which look pure black.

The bolts are T25 and the OEM ones are T20 which makes me think these did not come from a Ranger.

I have the spray in OEM bed liner if that makes a difference.

You’ll likely need a tap to clean out the threads from the spray in liner. Someone posted the tap size needed.

Thanks so much for this Henry Mac.

What size Torx are your bolts?

I hate to seem like a dunce here but could you explain how to use the tap please?

Glad to help :like:

You need a tap and a tap handle.

To chase the threads you basically thread the tap into the tapped hole BUT you start threading it and it will get snug, then back it out about 1/.2 to 3/4 of a turn, then start threading it back in. Repeat this procedure until the tap runs all the through the hole. It's kind of an acquired skill... do it wrong and you may screw up the threaded hole or break the tap off. If you know somebody that's experienced, like a machinist you might want to get them to help.

Not sure what size the Torx bit is... I'll check it tomorrow and let you know.

Hi RMD,

Okay...First verify the heads of the bolts look like the existing bolts securing the 4 straps you have...I would bet these bolts are not the correct size. As far as using a thread tap, Buy a 8mm x 1.25 tapered tap....It will have a square end which accepts a tap wrench, but you can use any smaller adjustable wrench for this purpose. Finger thread this tap into the hole and then using the adjustable wrench, tighten it about ¼ turn, then reverse to back out a quarter turn...then advance again to ½ turn...advance until it turns freely...Do this for all holes. A bit of 3 &1 oil applied to the tap will help. Once done, you are set to go! The fasteners you show have an adhesive patch and these fasteners require much more torque to drive into the hole, but I am troubled by the need for a T25 as this implies the incorrect fastener. Take the bolts to the hardware store and have them verify that they are M8 x 1.25... If not...back to the dealer for the correct fasteners...

Don't use an adjustable wrench on the tap like Phil suggested above....it side loads the tap and makes it very hard to keep the tap going in straight.

As for Phil's comment about "adhesive"..???? I don't see any thread locker on the bolts you posted a photo of? The best way to make sure you have the correct bolts is to buy the 8 mm - 1.25 tap. Hold it up to the bolts you have and make sure the threads on your bolts match the tap. If they match.... you are good to go.

Or, as an alternative, remove one of the existing bolts from the existing bed tie downs.... and compare that to your dealer supplied hardware.

In any event... good luck! Let us know how everything works out for you.

For now, I'll live with the four tie-downs, my 2000 had just four so I am used to it.

Those of you with late production '19's that were equipped with just four tie-downs and had their dealers supply the additional two, I'd consider myself fortunate. This shows great customer care, but they, nor FOMOCO are obligated to provide these unless either stated so.

There is a disclaimer in all manufacture's brochures which states in one way or another that specifications are subject to change at any time.

Of more importance to me is the leather upholstery issue with the Lariats...

Once again Mele Kalikimaka all!

Thanks for the link...My Ranger I bought yesterday has only four and the dealer had no brochures for the Ranger. Salesman was skeptical even though he had a mix of trucks with six and four... Now I have a picture that says six..

Got a call from my local Ford Dealer today. The back ordered Bed Hooks and Bolts were ready for pickup.

They wrote it up as a Service Warranty Claim so there was no charge.

Here are the part numbers in case you need them:

Tie Down Hook - Ford (KB3Z-21550A74-A) $6.49 ea, Quan. (2) = $12.98
Tie Down Hook Bolt - Ford (-W505594-S450B) $3.90 ea, Quan. (4) = $15.60
__________________________________________________Total = $ 28.58

I need to buy a tap to chase the threads in the truck since the truck has the ford factory sprayed Toughbed liner in it.

I couldn't agree more, the 2019 brochure lists 6 tie-downs while the 2020 simply states "tie-downs", so, theoretically Ford could just install just 2.
But consider this, if Ford (or any manufacturer) can save $2.00 for every vehicle produced imagine the savings on a say, 50K vehicle production run?

Does anyone remember the fuel door hinges on the mid-seventies Mercury Monarchs and higher-end Ford Granadas? There was a decorative plastic/aluminum panel attached to the panel just below the trunk lid opening, the fuel filler was center-mounted in this panel. Ford chose to use a friction type hinge for the cover concealing this opening. Well, after several door openings the cheap hinge broke, leaving the cover held on the surrounding panel just by the hinges, every single hinge broke, it's life dependent on the frequency of this cover's opening. Ford issued a product update in which a real metal piano type hinge would replace the friction hinge, I wonder how much it cost Ford for this update. I performed dozens of these updates, along with exorcising the multitude of rattles and squeaks that Ford graciously provided, free of charge. It is my understanding that certain later model F series have almost the same issue, one would think they'd learn from experience.

The politically correct term is "cost-cutting", I call it being cheap, plain and simple.
