But does it take any more than a "regular" F-150? I can't image it would take almost 200 lbs more than a regular F-150 - sure it takes more than a car - it is a LOT bigger than a car....

I agree - I think they threw in the lightning just for the EV slant.....
God, don’t anybody else put Dave’s article down. ?

Well the Lightning is the only EV truck out there right now and it is Ford who's supplier that's polluting the area so its not all that slanted. I guess if there were more full size EV trucks that would've been a better comparison but there isn't yet. I think the whole premises of the article is saying EV's aren't as "green" as most think they are.

And Adam I really could care less who agrees or disagrees what I post on here or anywhere for that matter. It's for discussion purposes but seeing as "no I didn’t read it, ain’t nobody got time 4 dat!" I'm not sure why you'd even bother to comment. It's better than arguing about uneven beds, fuel in the oil and catch cans.

I don't really understand why the Lightning was singled out though - the subject of the article was about aluminum being used in trucks, not really about EVs. Ford has used all aluminum in the F-150 for YEARS - the lightning and the F-150 should (I would think) use comparable amounts of aluminum.

After going back and re-reading the article it does seem to mention other vehicles and just says there will be increased need for aluminum as auto makers look to reduce weight on EVs (to increase range). It just seem to have kind of fixated only on the lightning which was kind of odd....

If the intent of the article is to somehow influence thinking about the "greeness of EVs" , I'm not convinced, EVs currently don't account for much aluminum use compared to aircraft, construction, all other transport vehicles, and of course beer cans, but it's something new to add to the lithium mining issues, carbon footprint arguments, grid and bridge collapses, battery fires, Yada, Yada, Yada. New man at the helm in Brazil and he's pledged to control rainforest deforestation and other amazon environmental abuses , raising worldwide awareness is one thing, singling out EVs and Ford seems to be someone working an agenda.

Ford seems to be in the crosshairs in a lot of videos/articles lately. I'm guessing the story wouldn't have been as good if they said Rivian because most people have never heard of them. Plus Ford seems to be the largest one pushing EV's lately. With the Blue Oval City and MI projects.

Why the hell is the lightning even brought up in this article? Almost 1,000,000 F-series trucks every year since 2015 have been made of aluminum.. oh yeah, so they can tie in an EV buzz word.
My understanding is those trucks have their body made from aluminum. If I understand the article correctly, the Lightning will also have an aluminum frame. I quote:

"the Lightning’s frame requires 682 pounds to make: the metal is used in the windshield header, frame tubing and exterior panels..."

And again, why single out Ford, who gets the aluminum from Canada who gets the ore from Brazil:

"America imports up to 75 percent of all the aluminum made in Canada, which, in turn, is made with ore from Brazil — painfully and dangerously mined from the Amazon rainforest."

The Lightening, just like the other F Series Trucks, is “Body on frame” architecture. The body is entirely aluminum. The Frame is entirely welded boxed steel. They used “frame” to speak on the body’s inner structure.

They were also referring as well, most likely, to the additional aluminum extrusions around the f/r motors on the Lightening which look to be Bolted to the steel frame.

Yep, The new man in charge is doing precisely that. He's controlling the the deforestation of the rain forest.

As they build a massive 4 lane interstate highway to the city of Belem to host COP30 in the middle of the rain forest. That highway is simply the start. There will be much more infrastructure needed to support the UN Climate Change Conference - Belém, November 2025 COP30 in style.

Irony at its finest!
