I had a kawasaki 900 that stopped running. I took it to the mechanic. Ten minutes later he called and said “ your bike is ready“ I said wtf was wrong and he said, “ I cleaned all the acorns out of your intake” ….

My first experience with a big bike was a Kawasaki 900. I'd been playing with 2 stroke dirt bikes and and old Honda 350. A friend bought one and let me take it for spin.

I took off down the street and hit the throttle in first gear. I was not prepared for what happened next!

It d@mn near flew out from under me! Feet dangling and holding on for dear life! Holding on was just the first problem. The bigger issue was letting up on the throttle! I could not release it back to idle until I managed to pull myself back up enough to allow my wrist to rotate the throttle back down. I think the only thing that saved me was that I finally hit the peak of the torque curve and it slowed acceleration enough to regain control.

A lot happened in a little bit of time. I hit ~50mph faster than I thought possible! Once I regained control I slowed it down to a crawl, made a u turn and drove it back very gingerly. That ended my under 1 minute riding experience with that monster!

I do give it credit for being a smooth ride!

My buddy was grinning from ear to ear as I approached him!

I starting using this spray on all my vehicles and it works well to keep mice out. Not for wood rats though. I spray in the wheel wells and engine bay.

When I was young, I used to have a Kawasaki 500 triple two stroke, that describes exactly what happened on that bike at about 5,700 RPM. Also accompanied by an unearthly wail from the triple exhaust and a smokescreen that would do a destroyer proud. And somewhere far back behind me would be the poor bloke on the Honda CB 750 who was silly enough to try to drag race. Note though I think that had things gone on longer he probably would have eventually reeled me in .

Yuh, that thing was crazy. they also had a Kawasaki 750 triple, Another beast and those bikes were not for sissies. In the 70s, I had an RD 350. that was very quick.! If you don’t know where the power band is, they’re really a handful !oo

Yes I always wanted to trade it up for the 750 but my parents wouldn't let me, looking back now that probably was wise. I do remember I used to go through almost as much super outboard oil as my dad did on his fishing boat.

Further Adventures in Rodent Proofing

After sustaining $543 worth of damage to the passenger side airbag wiring, I went on a rodent proofing mission. You will need a Lisle Tools 54150 wiper puller if you have any hope of ever getting the wipers off. Why do I need to take the wipers off you ask? Because both wipers come up through the driver's side half of the cowl cover. You need the cover off in order to access the oh so convenient rodent access holes that Ford nicely left open in the fire wall. The passenger side is very easy since you just need a small screwdriver to undo the black plastic clips holding the cowl cover on.

Mark the wiper blade postions on the windshield with masking tape before you start. The passenger side wiper came off sounding like a small .22 going off. The drivers side just slowly came off. I used 1/4 inch mesh, 23 ga hardware cloth from my local hardware store (part of the Do It Best hardware group). 3M/Scotch extreme mounting tape (can be purchased in store at Walmart or online at walmart.com or The Amazon). Get the big roll, not the dinky one. Ask me how I know. When done, I sprayed everything in the cowl & under the hood with denatonium solution (purchased on Amazon).

This was not a fun job between running out of tape the first time due to the small roll I bought at first, only being able to complete the passenger side at first since the wipers prevent you from doing the driver's side, having to weasel everything around the driver's side center hole because the wiper motor is in the way, and it being very tricky to get the red release film off the tape once the pieces are in place.

Pictures attached. I really hope this works. I will mess with the cab vents behind the back seats another day.

I did apply a small amount of anti-seize to the wiper posts before re-installing the arms. Make it easy for the next guy, especially if you might be the next guy.

apparently they don't like Irish Spring Soap cakes
I know someone that put Irish Spring in their camper and the mice used it as a food source.
That happened to me.....Mice were taking big chunks of Irish Spring away somewhere and leaving toothmarks on the bars of soap. I think they liked it! I've started using Might Mint spray now. so far so good

I hates meeses to pieces. They got to the hood insulation in my Passat. Then, they got to the hood insulation in my Ranger and chewed the heck out of a wiring harness. If all they did was make a home in my air cabinet filter, it might not seem so bad - however, they carry way too many diseases. Folks who live in the southwest know all too well about Hantavirus. They are gross little critters.

I‘ve used Doktor Doom spray after the incident with my Ranger - it’s a solution of Denatonium Benzoate.

Bitter, yes, but not recommended for Manhattans. ;) 🥃
