Reviving this old thread, because now that Thing 1 has a learner's permit and I've just had to replace the tail light that my sister smashed, I'm seriously considering a little extra protection. The eBay link above is still active, but it seems more cosmetic than anything else.

You're right. That doesn't look like it would offer any real protection.

You mean the guards that usually rust to death after a couple of years?

As stated before, they likely never became an option as they are likely only compatible with Rangers that don't have BLIS sensors in the lights, so it's likely too small of a market to justify making them. As for the ebay link to the ROW Ranger trim/cover. Don't expect that to fit the US market Ranger, we didn't get the same bed or tail lights as the ROW Rangers.

I’ve seen her skeleton down my backyard sled run - you need something along these lines...

You've got a point. Maybe I should draw some inspiration from this:

Or, I could go this route; a lot cheaper, but not quite as much protection:

The Tango & Cash mobile, where Tesla got the inspiration for they Cybertruck windshield!
Yeah, but I would drive the Tango & Cash mobile and use the Cybertruck for a jump ramp!
