Hi all looking for some help here about a month ago i had mammoth leveling spacer and alignment done no issues no noises at all and about 2 weeks ago i installed new pads and rotors all around (powerstop kit). Now about two days ago after driving to a fishing spot on gravel im noticing a abrupt metal clunking noise while hitting small bumps, potholes etc. I just had the wheels off double checked the torque of everything and couldn’t really find anything loose or broken the only thing i did notice was the outside brake pads on the front have the slightest bit of wiggle and the stabilizer bar bushings look cracked. I am completely unsure of what’s causing the sound any insight or ideas would be great.

side note i do have full warranty if i can’t figure out a quick fix may just take it in for service but worried they may something about the leveling kit as the issue

Were the anti-rattle clips installed on the brake pads?

I am posting the following thread as a ref for the sound.
and noted that the Powerstop Brakes can possibly tie into your complaint (noise) issue.
Does your noise sound the same as the ref video (below)?

If yes and your noted pad wiggle, could possibly be pad placement (I/B-O/B) swapped, IDK if the Power-Stop pads make a difference or exactly how the OE differs except for the NOTE in the manuals for ensure proper placement. I have not had mine apart to physically see why that note is there.
another possible could be that the Power-Stop pads may have a slight MFG difference that allows them to rattle in the anti-rattle clips vs the OE (size difference)

I could be off track here - but just wanted to point out a POSSIBLE source.

Now the Links appear cracked would require a pic for visual look, I am sure there are pics on here for the links or even look on-line for one and compare that to yours, I am sure this sound would be a deep metalic thud going over bumps etc.

Simple things that can be over looked….
  • Loose or popped anti-sway bar link
  • loose lug nuts
  • 1/2” drive rolling around the storage compartment ?‍♂

Good reminder Bob. Every time someone posts this bit of info, I always say to myself, “Oh yeah, I’ll have to remember that when I replace my brake pads”. Then, time goes on and I see it posted again and think to myself, “Man, I forgot about that - gotta keep that in mind”.

When the time comes to swap them out, I’m totally going to forget. ?‍♂ ?

Did you clean and lube the caliper guide pins? If they are frozen or sticky, the pads may not be properly loaded by the caliper, and could make noise.

I was surprised to see that the inner front pads have a left and right side, while the outer pads are interchangeable. I wonder what is different on the inner pads and how are they marked for left and right side installation?
