Does anyone know if you can lock the doors with the engine running on an XL without keyless entry. I intended to buy an additional dummy key so that I can leave the chipped key in the ignition running, but still locked. This ranger is used on construction sites where I'm running my work computer, and I don't want my truck stolen.

Thanks in advance.

If you haven’t gotten the truck yet, get one with remote start. Or if the XL has ford pass capability you could start it with the ford pass app while keeping the keys with you

You are supposed to get 2 keys and fobs with your vehicle.

Next time I'm out I'll see, if I can remember the other fob.

No fobs just keys. Upon looking it appears the only options are keys or proximity fobs.

Also Ford pass requires Sync 3 which I'm sure I have.

Hi Dan,

Over 30 years at Ford, I collected a ton of keys. I kept them in a box...the box was quite heavy and maybe over 200 keys. Most folks at Ford Truck knew I had this box of keys and every once in a while some one would lock themselves out of their car or truck. I would hand them the box. Try each key and eventually you will find a key that works. Since I did not sort them there might have been 10 or more of the same keys, but what the hey. Worked almost every time and I told the person if they found the correct key to just keep it for emergencies. I still have the box but is is more for memories than current necessity. At the time, There were, as I remember, only 30 different unique key configurations. I still had the door keys which the government regulated to be different from the ignition as well in this box. Door keys were rounded and ignition were the normal squarish kind.

Best,

You don't need sync 3 with the Ford app. I have a XL amd remote start my truck using the app all the time

Our 2019 shuts off in 15 minutes after a remote start. Seems the only way to keep it running is with the keys in it.

Once upon a time a constable who had a Chevy car with two keys would always leave the IGN key in place to facilitate a fast get away after serving someone with papers. Sometimes people get upset when they get served. He would carry only the door key. His car was in for repairs so he borrowed a Dodge. Dodges used the same door key in the ign and the other key only opened the trunk. So, after serving a lady papers he went out to the car and couldnt get in. This was before cell phones. Sheepishly he had to go back to the lady and ask to use her phone. ?

Another key story. I was called out to get the extra key for a motor pool car (they are in my office) as a lady locked the keys in the car. As I walked up to the car I saw that the back door window was down. I pointed this out to the lady and she turned red and cracked up when I reached in the back window and unlocked the drivers door. She was a Blonde.
