I have a 2021 Ranger XLT. I'm used to my vehicles unlocking as I approach them, proximity unlock? Does my new vehicle do this? Maybe my battery is weak in the keys? I don't see a setting for it in the settings anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help.

Nope....you have to hit key fob, or touch inside of front door handle with fob within several feet of it, like in your pocket.
Suggestion.....read owners manual.

With an XLT, you need to unlock with the key fob unlock button or the mechanical key, no proximity unlock. I believe Steve is referring to the operation of the Lariat. I agree with him that a read of the owner's manual would be a good idea.

My bad....didn't realize the Lariat was only one with the touch unlock....thought some other "packages" came with it.

Read your owners manual..... Also if you have an xlt you don't have the keyless unlock that lariats do (touch inside of any door handle to unlock and the outside indentation to lock. You have to hit the button, or get a lariat

Yeah, I do RTFM, but these days they all seem so agnostic among different models/trims they're not much use. I actually always read the whole manual for any vehicle I buy. I had thought it said I had this feature, so my bad on that account. Thanks for the help!

ford.com also has a very handy comparison breakdown of all the trims just for reference, just look under the model vehicle and the compare trims. Its much easier than going through the whole manual, also having reread the 2020 manual I do see that it says if equipped which is pretty much useless if you don't have the window sticker lol.

Haha, right! Manual: "Your Ranger can fly, if equipped".

Only the rangers with push to start will proximity unlock. XLT normally doesn't have this and still uses a key, since a 35 K truck for some reason couldn't get that feature lol

Even on 2023 F-150 XLTs, push button start isn't standard (it is an option though, unlike the XLT Rangers). Kind of ridiculous.

The fact that you can’t even option push button start and keyless entry on the XLT is one of the reasons I ended up with the Lariat. It kind of sucks that Ford requires you to get the higher trim level, but they did get more $$$ out of me, so I guess it worked?

Yeah it is amazing to me, it's not some crazy technology and it is useful. Even crap cars have it. Ford just nickel and diming people. Pretty sure the video I saw of someone reviewing the XLT 2024 still had a regular key as standard. I get that some people want that, but don't think it's the majority.

This gen Ranger was a dated design in 2019.

My Focus as really spoiled me with those features. The Lariat has things I don't like, like the sliding rear window. Only things from the Lariat I feel I'm missing out on are the Intelligent Access (topic of this thread), push button start and LED headlights. I prefer the manual cloth seats of the XLT too.
