You need two keys to program a new one. Since you only have one, you will need a locksmith or Ford dealer to program a second key.

Easiest is probably go to the dealer and buy a fob, cutting, and programming. It cost me about $300 about 6 months ago. You will need proof of ownership.

Yep, a dealer is probably your best bet. Many locksmiths no longer do automotive keys here.

Buy an extra key at amazon then go to a locksmith and have it cut and programed, less expensive

I had to get in for my Lariat. Ford charged me $200 for the fob and $100 to laser cut the key and reprogram both fobs.

Ace Hardware advertises that they cut/program. Has anyone used them??

Locksmith coming provide key cut & program $250.
I tried ACE and they did not have it in stock, and he did not offer price to cut and program, it maybe cheaper option.

Don’t put key and her purse in garbage dumpster by mistake h@ campground and not realize it till waste management picked it up and dumped it at transfer station.

I went there and they were no help?

Thought I'd be able to program it since I have two original keys. Alas, I could not. Tried the various procedures I saw online, talked to a friend at Folsom Lake Ford who confirmed the process and it didn't work. Had to pay a roaming locksmith $100 to program it. When he connected his device to my OBD2 port, it reported that I did indeed have two keys and the new key programmed in seconds so I was pretty bummed that I couldn't do it myself.

Then again, it cost me $59.94 total for the fob, Outdoor Supply Hardware (the revival of Orchard Supply Hardware) cut it for free (because he said he could only program keys purchased there) and then the $100 for programming so I guess it's not that bad. Then again, I'm cheap so it still annoys me.
