Job, what do you do

Deleted member 1634

I'm a Stress Engineer at Cirrus Aircraft. We build composite, single engine, General Aviation airplanes. Only company with a whole airframe parachute as standard on all of our planes. Pretty cool place to work. There are obviously always a few bad days in any job, but in the end not many other jobs I'd rather do. Very cool to be a part of the clean sheet design of a brand new type of airplane. Not many other engineers get to do that, in any field, let alone at my age.

Man I'm jealous of your job! I'm attempting to get into avionics, used to fly a lot with my dad as a kid, he had a SR22, I think gen 2. But right now I'm an IT Consultant.

I've been a motorhead my whole life. Totally screwed up trying to rebuild my first dirt bike at 8 years old but got it the second time, by 13 I was porting and doing other mods and by the time i was 17 i think my porting might have actually made power rather than making things worse LOL! I then worked at a few performance shops doing mostly snowmobile repair and performance but also a lot of dirt bikes, motorcycles, atv's, and boats. Rebuilding shocks, fuel mapping, nitrous were my favorite jobs. Did a handful of years in the Army as a 13 Foxtrot. Hated most of it.
Now I do work at home for friends and customers from my old jobs. I have a few cool prijects of my own one being a 80's Skidoo Citation 250 that I put a jackshaft and chaincase from a Polaris indy700 chassis and I'm building a Polaris Sportsman 500 HO atv engine for it. Pretty much a really light snowmobile chassis with a 500 single 4 stroke. Im a 2 stroke guy but it should be pretty cool!

Government employee....so, not much.

In all seriousness, I retired from the Air Force in 2013 after 21 years and change. Went back into Civil Service doing what I did on active duty. What is that you ask - the career field is called Manpower. In a nutshell, it's our job to determine how much manpower it takes to accomplish the job (whatever job or mission an organization has). I also manage the Continuous Process Improvement program for our wing (think Six Sigma for the Air Force).

Operator at the what was the world's oldest operating nuclear research reactor. She's shut down now and were slowly transitioning towards decommissioning it.

I am 68 years old and have been turning wrenches since 1972. My first truck was a 1959 Ford F250 2wd rebuilt engine .080 over 223 cubic inch straight six, then a Mazda Rotary , Then a Ford E350 diesel extended Van, then a E150. Bought another Mazda B2600 followed by a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd, My Wife gave me my 2019 Ranger for my birthday last year. Love my truck I don't need to fix anything for 3 years YEA.

Did you have anything done to the Mazda Rotary? An RX7? I love rotary engines even though they are finicky, burn tons of gas/oil, and aren't very reliable especially the apex seals. I had an old snowmobile with a single rotor Wankel rotary engine.

I love the Ford straight 6's too my first truck was a early 80's f150 with the 300 6 and a bad starter. it used to do that thing where when the truck fired the starter would go weeeeeeeeee. Used to do that like 10-20 times before it would start.

Drove this for a while after driving does country. Didn't like it so I joined the Navy. Retired from that. Went to work in Navy civil service. I trained the Navy ship battle groups to prepare for deployments. Now I'm retired from that and I volunteer at the USS
Midway Museum in San Diego. Think I've got salt water in my veins?

I have worked at a level 1 pediatric trauma center as an RN for coming up on 30 years. Most people around a dinner table don’t want to hear anything about my job let alone see pictures. I don’t use my Ranger for work unless you count being able to squeeze into the tiny parking spaces in the garage. I do have lots of hobbies though like woodworking and camping and too many to name. I’m hoping to have this truck in 8 years when I retire.
