My name is Scotty I’m a welder and machinest at my job. I’m also the foreman. We remanufacture vehicle rims. I repair bends, cracks, chunks missing from wheels. Strip, sandblast, powdercoat, and machine the face of the rim to make it look new again. Some people just don’t like the color of there wheels so we change the color to what ever they want. Let’s hear what everyone does for a living.

Some pics of rims done. One of the rims had a crack and a bend. The big one on the floor is a 24x14 polished wheel. It was bent and cracked. I repaired it and repolished it. Also the big oven we cook the rims in and the CNC lathe I reface the wheels.

I'm working on my architect's license, doing shop drawings for a woodshop for billionaire's shoe and wine racks when I'm not doing that.

Been renovating my house alone for the past 3 years or so. Got real tired of having to hook up a trailer just to move a 4x8 sheet with a Crosstrek.

Your job looks fun though. Do you do any custom metal fabrications or just stick to wheels?

I do custom work also. I been a welder for 29 years. I been at this job for 9 years now. It is a fun job. I get to do all kinds of stuff. Not just weld all day like I used to. I paint, powdercoat, polish, strip wheels and use the automated blaster. Also help customers. Teach my guys in the shop how to do all this stuff. I had gotten laid off from my other job and didn’t want to go back being in welding shops or offshore. One of my best friends owns this shop so came to work for him. I had to work my way up the ladder like everyone else though. LOL..now I’m the employee that has been here the longest.

Scotty: Your craftsmanship is great, the product looks very nice.

I was a Radarman in the Navy on a minesweeper. I next was a lineman (telephone and cable TV). In 1973 I entered the radio communications field. Most of the time was spent on public safety and public service communications including two-way radios, microwave radios, pagers, dispatch centers, SCADA systems, alarm panels, etc. I have been retired since 2010 but I still serve on a regional FCC committee that coordinates requests from public safety organizations for frequencies to use for their communications.

I helped my buddy / boss build this truck. I did all the stainless exhaust, fuel tank, drive shaft, and frame. Plus the wooden bed. So yes I do custom stuff also. LOL.... it’s a lot of fun. my buddy / boss has a lot of toys to play with.
