Regarding the front camera, the "line" (don't know the purpose of it) my OCD (and Ford's build quality lol) questions if the is supposed to be crooked or not.

I've noticed it before, pretty much the first time I detailed the truck. Just kept forgetting to inquire about it lol.

If its a heater, as we hear so many claim.... who can prove it on a frosty morning?
I'm in the camp that its there for the camera to use in its distance calculations.

Can Airline mechanic, our resident pro sparkie tell us if the windshield is wired for an element up there?

There are other threads on here about the same thing. It is a heater wire for the camera that’s in there. On occasion when your windshield gets fogged up you’ll get a notice early crash protection and other features are shutting down. Once area clears all systems will come back to normal state.

It's a calibration line for the camera and it's slanted to simulate perspective like a road. To the camera the right side of the line is farther away than the left side and it uses this measurement to calculate the distances elsewhere in its imaging. (It's actually the left side is farther away than the right but I'm referencing the image posted...)

I don't know what that line is for but the defrost explanation just doesn't seem right so I'm going with yours

All I know is I have never seen that area of my window ever be defrosted when the truck is out warming up.
As expected, the thawing starts at the bottom and its usually the wiper/washer that gets the top when i drive away due to impatience

Oh ok, well whatever the camera see's/does upfront I probably have it turned off anyway lol. Only thing I have active is the rear stuff. Oh and the BSM warning.

Yeah I've done a little bit of this "optics for AI" stuff in my profession and it's all very fascinating stuff. Cameras are used as sensors because pixels carry a ton of data very cheaply and efficiently but they are not used in the same way that people use cameras. Basically the lens is able to focus on the point on the left and then the point on the right at different focus points. Then that will come back to the computer as photographic data. The engineering wizards are then able to translate that focal difference into a real-life distance in ft., meters., whatever.

So long story short - the camera takes a picture of the car in front of you, checks it against its little line, and if it violates a certain threshold it will sound the alarm. Does this at probably 24-30 frames per second - mind boggling stuff this technology!

(For those curious I did this with AI assisted way finding for smart phones in large Vegas resorts.)
