Is Extended Warranty Worth It (even at $25 over dealer cost)?

I am approaching the 36k mark on my '23 Ranger. Is buying the extended warranty worth it even around dealer cost? I'm curious your decision point (yes/no) and how much you extended if you did?

For me, I've never considered extended warranties as a true warranty. They really are a form of insurance - you hope you never need them, but if you do, you are glad you got them. My personal experience with them is the few times I've purchased them, I didn't use them. I have not purchased an extended warranty for my Ranger - I'm rolling the dice and if it needs some significant repair (transmission most likely), I will be footing the cost. I still think it is worthwhile, since my truck is paid for and if I were to buy a new vehicle I would be spending a good bit of cash to get into it.

I bought it for my 23, just because we bought a 2020 Explorer ST used in 2022. The warranty has paid for itself almost 3x over now. The last large claim was the transfer case and differential replacement.
I wouldn't own any Ford Ecoboost product without one. My local dealer matched the online price from Flood Ford.

get a price for the extended warranty to see if you think it will help you.
I would rather save that monthly payment money , if you need work you have that money set aside. if the vehicle doesnt need work you have another nest egg for retirement

Everyone has their own prospective on worth. If you’re going to keep the truck for a long time then I’d consider it. For me it was worth it having the piece of mind that everything is covered for 10/100K. With all the computers onboard now and the potential transmission issues it would pay for itself if used.

i purchased one from them (Flood) back in september when my 3/36000 was up. 7/75000. currently with just 19k on the odo so no way i will reach the mileage limit. kinda wish i woulda run it by my dealership but i doubt they woulda matched it

We went back and forth for a while, he accused me of lying and making numbers up. I let him run the numbers and check their website and he insisted he couldn't match it. Told him fine, leave it off the purchase price and I'll write the check for the truck only, buy the warranty from Flood and let them honor the warranty they lost. He caved. Reminded him we bought the Exploder warranty from him and took it right in the ass and we weren't doing it again.

Extended warranty is about peace of mind. I didn't buy it for my ranger but I do buy it for whatever my wife is driving. If my truck breaks down, I'll find a way to deal with it. Having it on her vehicle is one less thing I have to worry about. Drop it off to honda, get a rental and life moves on.

I also drive a good bit more then her. My both of ours are 2021 year models. I have 114k and hers is at 43k. Extended warranty really isn't worth it for whatever it is I drive.

My Ranger is the first time I have purchased an extended warranty.

I think I paid a bit over $1K.

I recently had $7K+ in repair work done (rebuilt transmission at 36k miles and replace warped heater box) and it cost me the $50 deductible.

So in my case anyway, it was well worth it.

I paid about $1100 for the ford ESP through Flood Ford. The dealer couldn't touch it.
IIRC it is a 7 yr/ 70K warranty. OP is halfway there, and I'd recommend the warranty.
It doesn't take much of an owie to rack up a $1100 dealer repair bill.

Plus we always get a loaner vehicle and don't need to arrange a ride or rent a car on our own. During Covid we had a loaner for 5 weeks, while waiting for a valve body in the Exploder trans.

When I bought my 2020 in 2023, I added the Ford
4 year 48,000 mile extended plan. Hell, it cost $4,000. But figured it would be worth it with all that COULD go wrong.

We have Zeigler ESP 8yr/100K with $50 deductible purchased 6 months after delivery in 7/2020. Haven't needed it, but don't regret it.

Like any insurance... well worth it... when you need it.
IF you need it - the two times I've purchased extended warranties for cars, I never used them. I bought one on my 2005 Ranger - 7 year, 100k miles - never used it. Bought it for our C-Max Hybrid because I was worried about all the electronics and that car has been the most trouble free vehicle we've ever had.

I guess the moral of the story is to always buy an extended warranty - then you'll never have problems!
